Take a guess at which three cities have tied as the most expensive places to live.

Interesting.... those in the list aren’t surprises, having San Francisco and London not included raised my eyebrows, tho.

all depends how cost of living is calc'd - and that may have little relation to cost to visit - I certainly wouldn't remove paris because of a report like this -- I spent 5 days there last dec, and was quite reasonable to get around and find moderately priced, but excellent restaurants

With the unrest in Paris, discounting may be in the immediate future, there.

Or, President Macron of France will have to raise taxes to repair all of the vandalism that has taken place in Paris. The Yellow Vest Protestors have protested for 18 straight weeks. You are really angry, if you can carry on doing that, for that long. The Nazi's when they departed Paris, before the Americans landed on D-Day, were to burn Paris. That plan was foiled. Now, its own citizens are destroying the beautiful city. Historical landmarks are vandalized. Churches and Cathedrals. Paris is a mess now. Where is the French National Guard, to stop and arrest those vandals? They are burning and destroying tourist attractions too. Lock them all up. And vote Macron out the next election, if you are dissatisfied.

I seem to recall having read that Henri of Navarre, the founder of France's Bourbon Dynasty, characterized Paris as 'rather a mess.' Those words are thought to have signaled Henri's willingness to accept conversion to Catholicism in order to become King of France.

The French have a long history of violence toward their government and leaders.

what unrest? I was there at the height the gilet jaunes protest last Nov (current crowds are 50% smaller) and there were no problems outside a small protest area, ONE day a week, that was easy to avoid.

absolute nonsense - there was some vandalism early on, but nothing like the scale you describe, certainly paris is NOT a mess. like similar protests in the US, the vast majority are peacefully and legally demonstrating - troubles are caused at the end by a tiny group of Antifa and alt-right fanatics, they are arrested and actual damage has been contained

and get your history straight - the germans left Paris mmore than 2 months AFTER D-Day

as opposed to the English, Germans, Chinese (20 million killed in Taiping rebellion), American civil war, etc, etc - history is a long story of rebellions, peasant uprisings, and civil wars; in contrast to Russian, Chinese revolutions, relatively few died in the French Revolution (tens of thousands vs 10s of millions)

So, then: protests at venues selected to best utilize telephoto lens magnification effects. Seen that before.

You are correct. The Germans surrendered the city of Paris on August ,25, 1944. According to the news I have been viewing, there was vandalism in the city of Paris. The protesters are angry about the high prices of fuel. Organizers have included protesters from rural areas of Paris. And they appear to be quite angry. They are called the Yellow Vest Protesters.
