Canon 6D MKII review

I really want to upgrade to full frame DSLR but budget is an issue. Right now, I use the Canon 70D. My interest is landscape, portraits, some wildlife, and some social photography.
I am looking at the Canon 6d MKIOI which is now on sale at about $1200. At DPREVIEW.com, the review is not as good as I would like to see. But I wonder if they might just be biased against Canon in general. I have been all Canon for 30+ years.
Questions:
1. Has anyone in UHH used this camera and willing to share their opinion - good, bad, ugly?
2. 42nd St Photo has good prices. Are they a good place to buy?

Thank you in advance for the help.

I have the 6D (first edition) and love it. No issues, easy to use - the live view is wonderful for landscape photography. I've also been a lifelong Canon user, I may be a bit biased, but I would recommend the 6D wholeheartedly.

I would look at the EOS RP instead if considering either EOS 6D model. A quick text search of this site for '42 street' will warn you away from this bait-n-switch.

Actually I have to agree with Lori... I have been lusting after the 6D for years now and am ordering a body April 30th. No ,its NOT a Mii which I do not want; This will be my landscape body hung with the best lenses I can afford. At less than 1000 how can you go wrong ? No, my M43 is NOT going away; diff. tools for diff. jobs. I already have 2 60D's which are the little brothers of the 6D and will round out my Canon setup with some L legacy lenses.... Basically GO FOR IT...! Not a better deal in FF.

The best price currently at AUTHORIZED Canon dealers for the 6DII is $1499. The price you are quoting is almost certainly grey market. Same identical camera. Nothing illegal, but you will not have a US warranty with it. That bothers some people, some it doesn't. Canon will still service and repair it, but at the going rate, unless you ship it to whatever country the warranty with it is valid in.
42nd St is WAAAY down the list of reputable dealers. Shop there at your peril.
I agree with CHG CANON: Check out the EOS RP. Same sensor as the 6DII in a mirrorless design. $1299. Outstanding camera for the price by all accounts. I have the EOS R and prefer it over my 5DIV.
BTW, despite what DPREVIEW may say, the 6DII is an excellent camera for the price, keeping in mind that it is considered an entry level FF so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of something like the 5DIV. Still, excellent for your type of photography. I still recommend the EOS RP though.

Edit: Just want to add that with the EOS RP you can use not only your EF lenses but also any EF-S lenses you may have (but at some loss of resolution compared to your 70D). Can't use any EF-S with the 6DII.

Stay away from 42nd ST Photo, use B&H Photo, or Adorama

The 6D (version I) has often been listed in lists of "one of the best cameras ever built". The flaws" it doesn't do fast multi-shot shooting, so may not be good for sports. It also does not have a pop-up flash. Does any serious photographer use those? I purchased a refurbished 6D two years ago and have not used my 70D since. The improvement in image quality was stunning to me. And - the low-light capability is awesome. I have decent images with no noise shot at 25,000 ISO!

Good morning, Mdougc, I will answer your 2nd question first. 42nd St is not the shop of old. They have a bad rep that they earned, stay away from them and search this site for opinions of UHH members.

I own the 6Dii and have had it for about 4 months or so. I have had no issues with it and for my first FF body I love it. I just checked B&H and they are selling for $1500.00. I also have been a Canon user since the 60s and as a result maybe a bit biased. CHG_CANON (Paul) mentioned the new Canon EOS RP which uses the same sensor as the 6Dii but does require an adapter for any current Canon lenses you currently own. That may not be an issue since the 70D is a crop sensor and if they are APS lenses they will not work on the 6Dii but I believe they will work on the EOS RP. If you have a good camera shop close to you I suggest you go there and determine which one you prefer. I bought my 6Dii prior to the EOS RP was announced and as a result did not have a choice.

Just my $.02 and that is all it may be worth, Greg.

I have to agree with EVERTHING both LFingar/CHG_CANON have to say in their respective comments on this subject. I have the 6D and the Canon RP. The Canon RP is much smaller, mirrorless and has the latest technology all for $1299. Ken Rockwell calls the Canon RP "World's Best Mirrorless Camera". I'm not sure about that, I guess that would depend on what you are shooting. All I can say is that I am getting great results, with about 12 days of ownership, results very much as I get with my Canon 5DIV. I haven't found ANYTHING that makes me want to send it back. Please read the review in the following link. https://kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/rp.htm#compat

Thanks,

Canon Price Watch has it from a Legit, authorized dealer with North American Warranty for $1399.00. This is for the Body only.

I have had and used the Canon 6D Mark II for over a year now and have taken over 3K photos with it. It is a fantastic camera and is well worth your investment. The best reviewer is a user of the camera, not a website that tests them. Buy the camera, it is great and a good investment!

Agreed, I really like my 6D MKii. It has features and capabilities that fit my shooting needs.
I use it as a backup to my 7D MKii for sports and nature as well as for indoor and landscape. It is a good general purpose camera.

I have owned the 6D MK II for just under a year. Very happy so far. That being said, if
CHG-CANON says look at the Canon RP, I would take a very hard look at it. He gives great advice.
