Hi friends,

My PC has been getting old and starts to lag when I open up PS. I found this over the internet https://silicophilic.com/win32-priority-separation/, will allocating more CPU cycles to the program speed up the software? Has anyone done it before?

I tried another version of it one time which has now become nonexistent. It ended up giving me other problems, like my card reader and one USB drive quit working. I banged my head trying to figure out why, in the end I ended up uninstalling it and resetting my computer back to the original factory settings which in return meant downloading Light Room and Photoshop again and moving 24K photos to several other portable hard drives so I wouldn't loose them which one should do anyways. I normally just keep photos I really like on the portables so if computer did crash no big lose. My advice is either see how much space is available on computer and if there is plenty then make sure all updates are completed. Computers are only going to run as fast as they are built for and can handle. May just be time for an upgraded computer.

In Photoshop under Edit/Preferences/Performance; What is your available RAM and, how much of that is shown for Photoshop use.

Next under Scratch Disks; what are your disks and their size. Which disk is used as the scratch disk

You need at least 8 GB to run Lightroom or Photoshop. 16 GB leaves breathing room.

If your computer isn’t too old, consider replacing your startup drive with a larger capacity and faster one, or a large capacity SSD.

I had a similar problem with two Macs (6-year old iMac and 7-year old MacBook Pro). Moving to 16 GB and an SSD with twice the capacity made a HUGE difference in usability.
