I am new to UHH and have posted mostly in another area. I found the Trains area just a few days ago. While looking through my old Plus-X films circa 1972 to 1981 I found a roll labeled "Freedom Train 1976". Now let me tell you right up front these images were taken back in the days when my camera was manual this and manual that so the images are sometimes not focused quite right, and so on. I developed my own film and it is a miracle the results were as good as they are. But I just had to share these ten images. What I am showing you is 4449 as it made a stop in Santa Barbara, California some time in 1976. Some of these images show almost too much detail! But they are interesting even to someone like myself who has only a passing interest in trains. If these would help some other collection then pass the downloadables on to that other collection; they don't do any good sitting on my hard drive. If I remember I will make them downloadable although they are not that sensational fidelity-wise. There are 12 more if you want the "culls."

Thanks Remaining are sort of duplicates, some are of slightly poorer quality in various ways. Some just "less interesting" kind of shots. If enough folks indidate "send them all" I'll do that.

If anyone is curious, Google "SP 4444P" to get more of this machine. Fascinating story. I didn't know it until I had looked at my own images.

Jim -- Nice set of 43-year-old photos. I took the liberty of working on one image in the hope of improving it. Please let me know if I did, or not. I did this because I have always had trouble deciding what is the best image of my own photos!

Looks like you increased the contrast. But by the time it got back to me via UHH and was reduced to 800 pixels wide and the JPG processing it was more or less destroyed ! So i can't tell what you have done. Frankly with images that are a half century old it is a miracle we could get as much "fidelity" we we did ! On the first set I did spend some time getting rid of some scratches and so on but for this second round all I did was crop to get rid of framing marks and so on. No "messing around" with the images at all.

Just dawned on me. How about sending a downloadable version of your photo? That way we sidestep the awful things that UHH does when they simply post an image. The download will be a precise version of what you have done. - JT
