Super Bloom is happening now at Anza Borrego State Park. I’m planning on going at sunrise this Monday. Any tips on where to go in the park ?

Check out these links. The wildflower update is especially helpful. Enjoy!

Check in at any of the Ranger Stations. They have recent information sheets on where the bloom is best and free flower guides for the area. They are very helpful with which areas are most colorful and tips on what to look for that is uncommon or rarely in bloom. They also have area maps for sale, $2.

It is not that big, and scenic just about everywhere. Likely to be crowded on the weekend if there is a superbloom. Anywhere in the Owens valley should be wonderful too for the people to the north. You have the Sierras on one side and the blooming desert on the other. In fact the whole area from the Sierras to Las Vegas - the entire Mojave, if it got enough rain this winter, should be blooming.

Actually Anza Borrego is 640,000 acres in size. It just looks small on a map. But you are correct in that the desert is blooming all over California. Some places more than the others at the moment. And the butterfly swarms are on the move to take advantage of them. The butterflies are quite the spectacle too. It’s hard to visualize it until you see them floating by in groups wave after wave. As to the crowds, yes midweek seems to be best.

For a concentrated place (if you have any trouble walking), the area around the visitor's center in Borrego Springs is good. There are also many metal sculptures in Borrego Springs. You can get a map in the Chamber of Commerce office.
