Actually Anza Borrego is 640,000 acres in size. It just looks small on a map. But you are correct in that the desert is blooming all over California. Some places more than the others at the moment. And the butterfly swarms are on the move to take advantage of them. The butterflies are quite the spectacle too. It’s hard to visualize it until you see them floating by in groups wave after wave. As to the crowds, yes midweek seems to be best.
