I found a great place to shoot downtown Dallas but it has been so overcast and gloomy this winter I haven't been able to get it in the light that I wanted. These were taken in what should have been the golden hour but there was nothing but grey skies. I loved the colors of the buildings in this light so I replaced the sky. I did try blurring the background and a couple of other effects but I kept coming back to this version. Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
These are very vivid, very dynamic.
I love them, Keni! The substantial visual weight of the buildings is such a striking contrast against the fanciful, light-as-air bubbles. Terrific colors and energy. I believe only #3 has a few of the circles covering the tops of the buildings. My personal preference is to to have the skyline remain clearly defined.

Even though you don't see any people in the shots it's that time of the day when everyone is leaving work. They are headed home or to dinner. Elevators are going up down filled with people, sidewalks are busy and buses are full. There is life scurrying all around just out of site. That is how it speaks to me.

Thank you Linda. I really wanted that energy to come through. I think of all the sounds that I heard around me but there was no movement in the buildings themselves. Wouldn't it be cool to display these with the sounds of a big city playing in the background?
I did miss the circles on buildings in #3.
Dallas is a city like no other. Modern areas and old areas and then some mixed, construction everywhere. I take turns with my son, 49 with cancer, taking him at least once a month to Baylor hospital. Each time new construction at a new locations. I enjoy your pictures Keni. I keep thinking I will stop and take a picture of the big white arched bridge coming into town, it is so striking against the city backdrop.
Someday we'll have to get together, maybe at Fort Worth Botanical garden for some photo fun.

I really like those! The 3rd one in particular.
For reasons I can't explain they evoke memories of photos from the 30's-40's.
You are really creative, Keni!
The first thing that came to my mind when I viewed these shots, homemade bokeh
. That is certainly one way of replacing a dull sky. Very creative.

You did well with these. I think I prefer the first one the most. Changing the sky with something that is not a sky at all is really a very creative idea. I don't think I would have come up with it. I'm really enjoying your photography. Very creative.
