I have the CPR 5000. Have any idea whether the 10000 would be worth replacing it? Still get quite a few calls.
When I get the weendows calls, I talk fast and don't give them chance to get a word in, as if I was expecting them to come and replace my double glazing windows.
And it isn’t just the land lines that get called. In the past month, I have gotten three telemarketing calls on my cell phone. The advertisers are hard at work lobbying Congress to forbid any interference with calls to cell phones. Some people have minute limits so a robo call costs you. I am very careful to whom I give my cell number, but even so not careful enough.
It was about 30 years ago when my son was in high school as we started receiving numerous annoying voiceless phone calls every evening. Neither my son or I could guess who this was but felt comfortable someone from his high school was the villain.
After some thinking, I came up with an idea. I did a call-forward to another number. Left it call-forwarded for a couple of days before canceling. I feel pretty sure the response the nuisance caller heard shocked him(her?) - "FBI". Yes, it was the local FBI office and that is how they answered the call.
Never had the problem again.
My Dad (passed away in '05) and he would feign being deaf. It was actually quite funny. He'd keep asking "WHAT ?" until they hung up. Worked every time. I miss Dad.

Strange how some posts get responses that don't match the OPs initial intent, however subtle that may be. My intent was not to have a discussion of nuisance calls, but to get some belly-lafs from y'all after watching this video. Let's try again, here's the video, then you can be LYAO (Laughing Your A$$ Off).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KEtrJvxcBkYou mean some “hoggers” like detours? Happens a lot. And I wouldn’t be surprised if my comment draws comments😊

I was told this on Friday by my hearing technician. Cannot validate. When phone rings, answer but do not say a word, then press 9. Supposedly that puts that number on a no call list.
Those unwanted calls every 10 minutes, drove me crazy! But Armstrong Cable saved me!-- only for $2.50 per month added to my phone bill. Now when someone calls, they get this message: "if you are not a marketer, press 8". I have not had unwanted call since I started this service one week ago. It is worth every penny! Robots are too dumb to press 8!

Yesterday I got four spoof calls, all from the same number...My wife's cell phone!
Just remember - that poor guy at the other end is trying to make a living
Or you can show no mercy and play with the guy. I'm sure he's spending a stress free boring day
One trick I use, since I have a call blocker: when they offer me a deal on a (example) medical alert system, I will start a sentence like: “gee you know I’ve been thinking of getting one of those, can you tell......”. (Hang up in mid sentence and then block them). Must drive them crazy trying to call back.. and it doesn’t take much of my time. 🤡
How about " I cant hear you speak louder " several times in succession--works well----Henry

Yeah, we all get 'em, nuisance calls...trying to sell you something. Well, there's NOMOROBO, and other software, and just hanging up. But if you want to have some fun, try some of Tom Mabe's hilarious tactics, with many such on YouTube. Here's a good starting point:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KEtrJvxcBkI just got a new land line phone. While I am not a fan of AT&T this one had a feature that I had not seen before so I am going to try it. The call blocker has 3 modes of blocking calls
1 – block all calls not stored in memory (no good for me)
2 – intercept calls and ask for caller’s name to determine if it is a robo call. No good as robo calls answer whenever they get a noise feedback and the device would assume that was their name.
3 – this is the one I like, the phone intercepts the call and says, basically, this phone is equipped with a robo call blocker, if you are a live person please push “#” and your call will ring into the number you are calling. So far it has reduced incoming robo call to zero. (and we have not received any complaints from friends that they could not get thru.
The phone also has a technique that you can push a button to put the phone number on a blocked list stored in the phone, but we have had experiences (before we started to use this phone) where the caller ID did not represent the caller source.
As of right now it definitely eliminates the robo calls. After a few weeks of use we will know if is also blocking important calls. There are some calls such as appointment reminders that are robo calls. Don’t know how to solve that problem yet.
Unfortunately, in the past the robo callers never wanted to meet with me to give them the money they wanted or other information. If we could have met, I may have been able to persuade them to get into a different line of work!

Now, if you were to do something like that, the gang member would probably sue the school, the LAPD and you for their injuries, loss of income, and emotional distress. And they would probably win!!
In todays world you're probably right.

My wife got a couple of calls from herself. They rang and the caller ID said it was her own phone number calling. How the hell do they do THAT?
