Good Day All

I read daily but rarely post.

Long story short after 14-years together Elisa and I are getting married. Small ceremony, was suppose to be her and I, now a few select family and friends will be joining.

To my point, if you are aspiring to learn or know your stuff and will be on Martha’s Vineyard on April 30th and would like to get some practice time in with your new camera or try a few new techniques and share your results with us that would be great. You would be welcome to join us for a mini reception after.

Not looking to hire for pay, looking for a possible win win situation. If there is no interest I can understand that as well. I am sure we will end up with photos from those attending.

If interested please message me.

Fly me out and I’ll shoot it for room and board.
I’ve actually done it once before for a wedding on the outer banks of N.C.

Good luck and congrats!

Congratulations! You're going to be on a beautiful island and a perfect setting for a location wedding. It is not an inexpensive place to get to, so I would look for a photographer who lives on the island who might want to take you up on your request.

I could be very cold there April 30th. Good luck. And no, I'm not interested. I did that for 35 years and I am happy in retirement.

WIN WIN? Really? I have to get a place to stay, travel, photograph and share my images, and in exchange, I get invited to a mini reception and get some cake, cookies, and light food items. Thanks but no thanks.
Good luck though.

If you want some pro photos of your wedding, there is a superb photographer who lives on Martha's Vineyard, Alison Shaw. She was a local newspaper photographer now turned island photographer. She has a gallery in Oak Bluffs. I do not know whether she shoots weddings or what her fee would be.

I have admired her work. She teaches some classes in October when the island light is nice. You can review some of her work on her web site: http://www.alisonshaw.com/.

Her contact information is:

Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks for the replies, congrats and good lucks!!!

It was an idea, nothing critical.

Anyway should be a good time so long as Mother Nature cooperates for about an hour.

I will circle back and post photos.

I am sorry but who does that? Who asks photographers to go and shoot for a piece of cake and a drink? The most important day of your life and you are not willing to hire a professional photographer to record this day. Of all the expenses that you are going to have this day, the only one that will give you great memories is going to be the photographs from this day. Oh, I forget, some people don't think that photography is difficult or that people don't expend any money learning this profession. I truly hope that you get someone good and that you pay them what they deserve for their work.

All

I am sorry that my point was missed.

My point is “if” someone were to be at Martha’s Vineyard on April 30th and “if” they wanted to get some practice time (maybe they are new to this) in “or” try some new techniques.

I was not asking or expecting anyone to foot the cost of travel, lodging, or food.

I have hired and paid photographers for several of my daughters weddings and for my previous wedding. I have shot a few weddings myself and have great respect for wedding photogs and the hell they have to deal with.

This is purely a laid back occasion, no shot list, no expectations.

If I offended folks that was not my intention.

Thanks again for the congrats you are an amazing group.

I've been a wedding photographer for going on 35 years, and have been a mentor off and on for 25ish years, and have always suggested to people who want to get their feet wet, to find a situation just like the one offered.

I didn't take offense. I used to see "offers" like this on craigslist that actually wanted professional photography, and all the trimmings, and in exchange they will give you "exposure." This was nothing like that, just an offer to UHH members that may want the chance to try it out, in a beautiful location that they were hopefully going to be at anyway.

People are waaaay too sensitive. If you don't want to do it, just move on.
