I have been asked to video some local sporting events. I’ll be using one of my many canon DSLR’s. It is my understanding that they will only do a max of 30 mins video and then create a new file if you are going beyond that which most events do. Is there a software program out there that can combine the files into one continuous video to watch uninterrupted by clicking on the next file? Thanks in advance!

All the details aren't fresh in my head, but I believe it's more politics than electronics. Even a camcorder records in short bursts and then combines them. Assuming you will be using software to process the video, joining several segments is standard procedure. Recording to an SD card is not like running 8mm film through a camera.

I believe that Canon limit is 29 minutes.

Google free movie editor. There are several. You might want to read some reviews to pick the one you want.
You should do some practice runs before the event to try out techniques for shooting video- what speed to pan, how to zoom, etc.

I use VideoPad Video Editor. It's free, works well, and the learning curve is not to bad.

No, you can shoot a lot longer than that, it is only that after 29min. and some, the camera will automatically create a new file, but the recording is continuous! So, you can record as long as your batteries will allow!

It might be better to end the clip when you see a natural break, then start a new clip, rather than let the camera cut in. This way you are less likely to miss something important in the transition, which may not be instantaneous.

I understand that but was concerned about playback. I assume that the playback will end at the end of the first file anew one would have to start the next file. Is that accurate?

Photoshop CC will patch video clips seamlessly and easily.

I can only record for 29 minutes on my DSLR then the camera quits recording and I have to push the record button again and of course it starts a new file. I then make a slideshow of the files in Photos and it plays the files continuously. Can use iMovie for a more professional continuous video also but its more work.

Ok thank you sounds simple enough, I’ll give it a try.
