In cities and towns large and small, and all around the world, festivals of various types can be found all through the year. There are fire & ice festivals in winter, summer solstice celebrations, festivals celebrating particular cultures or ethnicities, food festivals, craft beer festivals. The variety is endless. But the one thing they all have in common is that they provide boundless photo opportunities.

I like music festivals. To get things started, here are some of my shots taken between 2003 and 2008 at Jerry Garcia’s Birthday Bash at Sunshine Daydream in Terra Alta WV.

These were all taken with my first digital camera – a Minolta Dimage 7Hi so I apologize in advance for the higher than normal noise in the night pictures.

I have only been to a few festivals - This one was a "medieval" festival.
I agree - heaps of photo ops.

Wonderful start for your very first "challenge," AMO, and nicely done.

Thanks for getting us started. I'm not sure if what I have would qualify
for a "festival." I do have a couple from a very small, local fireman's festival,
a hand full from the remnants of a local ice festival, a sand sculpture
competition and some images from our campgrounds annual "Wild
West Weekend," but I'm not sure if they are what you have in mind.

Part of an effort to revitalize Steubenville's moribund downtown, the city sponsors a monthly "First Friday on Fourth" event - kind of like a festival. It was a great opportunity to get some street shots.

These are some great street shots Sue and the Mono is the perfect choice. There are always so many stories on the streets.

Just a quick question - does a reenactment count as a festival?

Two dimensions of the Pivo (beer) and Burger Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia in June 2017. The pivo was from a small kiosk while the burger was from 'Pop's Place' the home of the best burgers in LJ. I discovered Pop's Place at this festival (though I'd photographed it several times while wandering along the Ljubljanica river). It became my "Cheers" for the duration of my stay. A must on return visits.

As I was lining up the shot (this was my lunch and dinner) another photographer took a few shots of the still life.

Sure. I would say a festival is anything where people gather to participate in a special event. I guess I should have made that clear in my OP.

They are exactly what I have in mind. In my view, a festival is anything where people gather to participate in a special event.

AMO thanks for hosting. This will be a unique challenge and fun. No current festivals happening here, so will have to do some from files.
