The wife and I are going to the big flower show in Philadelphia and I can't decide which camera to take. The wife will be using my Canon SL2 with an EF-S 18-200 lens. I was thinking about taking my 5D IV with the 28-300L or my D7200 with Nikkor 28-300 attached or my M50 with the 28-300L attached. I used the 5D IV / 28-300L last year but, even though I got excellent photos, that camera lens combo is quite heavy. I'm leaning towards the D7200 because it's really good in lower light conditions and it's smaller and lighter and has higher resolution than the D500. I like the 28-300 because even on a crop body it's plenty wide for the flower show and the 300 end comes in quite handy. The Nikkor lens isn't as good as the Canon lens but it is good enough.

The Canon 5D IV with 28-300L is about twice the IQ of the Nikon D7200 with 28-300, according to DXOmark. Personally, I wouldn't use those lenses on anything. Don't you have any good lenses?

I have plenty of good lenses. There is nothing wrong with the Nikkor 28-300. Sure, it's not in the same league as the 1st in class Canon EF 28-300L, but the Nikkor is way lighter and it really is good enough. You say you wouldn't use those lenses for anything. I don't feel that way. I find the 28-300 focal length to be quite versatile. Maybe not as versatile as say, 18-400 but way too many compromises are required to make a good 18-400.
People say neither the Canon or Nikkor 28-300 is sharp. Unless you're doing heavy cropping or very large prints, yes they are, regardless of what the pixel peepers pal, DXO mark says.

The weight of the Canon 5D Mark IV makes up for the results you can achieve. Invest a few dollars and get a macro Len ring flash. You will be glad you did. Show some of the pretty flowers here on Ugly HedgeHog!!

Happy Shooting!!

Thank you.
I have a ring flash but it would do me no good. The flower show isn't about individual blooms. If I wanted to photograph individual blooms I'd go to Longwood Gardens. The flower show is about exhibits constructed mainly of flowers and photographing those exhibits. Not something one would use a macro lens for.

But isn't that why people interact here if they don't know?

To each his / her own. I would take a Nikon D750, and a good macro lens...probably the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro VR.
