The wife and I are going to the big flower show in Philadelphia and I can't decide which camera to take. The wife will be using my Canon SL2 with an EF-S 18-200 lens. I was thinking about taking my 5D IV with the 28-300L or my D7200 with Nikkor 28-300 attached or my M50 with the 28-300L attached. I used the 5D IV / 28-300L last year but, even though I got excellent photos, that camera lens combo is quite heavy. I'm leaning towards the D7200 because it's really good in lower light conditions and it's smaller and lighter and has higher resolution than the D500. I like the 28-300 because even on a crop body it's plenty wide for the flower show and the 300 end comes in quite handy. The Nikkor lens isn't as good as the Canon lens but it is good enough.

Personally, I'd take a fast Macro lens. Something in the 60-100mm, f/2-f/2.8 range.

Went there Tuesday. Used just my Canon 80D with 18-135 lens. Could have used a wider angle lens like the 10-18mm. But still got fabulous pics.

If you have a 24-70mm f2.8 or thereabouts on a full frame body and enjoy the flowers and the images later....”

I do everything with 2.0 crop. Way easier to carry.

I'm still trying to figure out why you need a 200mm or a 300mm for a flower show. You taking pictures from the parking lot?

Obviously, you've never been to the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Perhaps take the lightest with a wide zoom, 18-140. And I'd have a wide angle, say 10-20, in my pocket. The other pocket would be the macro lens. Most likely you won't be allowed a tripod but a monopod might be ok. ( I have one that doubles as a walking stick)

No tripods or monopods allowed. Multiple lenses are impractical in such a large crowd.

Not sure why a macro lens would not be the first on the list? Have fun at the show.

You sound like a true compassionate person!

Compassion??? I am talking about a guy who has stated he gone to over 20 Philadelphia flower shows and he asks what he should be using to take pictures.
Do you not find that a bit strange?

rmorrison1116 - I’d ignore all the snarky comments and go with the lighter, low light and surprisingly sharp D7200. That would be a great choice. Have a photogenic day! Regards, Ralph.

I took the D7200 and it did a great job. Too bad the actual show was kind of disappointing, probably the second worst I can remember in a very long time.
The butterfly exhibit was pretty cool. This butterfly was having a rough day.
