Probably stolen gear. Or a scam to rob you, if you go to the sellers location to buy it.

Just a common scam. The camera probably doesn't exist. The seller won't do the transaction in person.

Yeah, scam indeed! This was posted all over the Tampa bay area.Whenever the deal seems too good to be true you can bet that there is only a phone number to contact them, and when you call it there is no response because they just wanted to capture your number and you'll get all kinds of marketing calls.

Closely studying the photograph, the plug on the cable is an English 240V 13amp square pins.

What do you suppose the goal of this scam is? When most people buy something from CL they meet in a public place and pay cash after checking out the item.

Another scam that I don't really get is the one where I post something for sale on CL like a lens, camera or ham gear, and someone texts to say they are interested and do I still have it. I say yes. Then they write back and say that they will pay full price plus whatever shipping costs are and that they are buying for someone else, usually a spouse or brother or other family member. Then they tell you they will PayPal the money to you. I have this happen time and time again but tell them "cash, meet in person, and carry" NO SCAMS!!!! LOL

But I still don't know exactly what the scam is other than maybe they send you a link to a fake PayPal and you try to pay there and they capture your Paypal login and password and then that clean you out.

You got it right! I've found that on many of them where only a phone number is given to contact them their scam is just to obtain your phone number which they then sell to telemarketers.

Thanks for the heads up. I just figure that everything on Craig's List is a scam, but some folks do use it. I feel the same about Ebay. In the last 15 years, or so, I have purchased 3 things on Ebay. Each was either damaged, or not what it was advertised to be...a different make / model. I don't bother with Ebay any more than I do with Craig's List, now. Someone must, though, for them to still be in business....so I guess someone gets what they expect.

I have a lot of photo equipment and most of it obtained off craigslist. There are many people that impulse buy and are willing to take a large loss, or they can afford to update constantly.

Of course there are precautions one must take when meeting and dealing with strangers, so it's not for everyone, but I've had great success.
