Should I add more canvas

The first picture is with minimal processing: slight increase in Shadow exposure and slight sharpening in DPP.
The second picture has: Topaz De Noise on entire picture; then erased over bird
Camera RAW Filter with Contrast, Clarity, DeHaze at +10
Vibrance at +5
Red, Yellow Saturation at +5
Canvas added to left side ~2"
Clone tool used to clean up rock
Question: should I add more canvas to left side?
More color saturation or hue?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

The first picture is with minimal processing: slig... (show quote)

Yes, if you can with Content Ware. Add to the side that the bird is facing (left) to give it some place to walk to. I'd increase the contrast slightly.

Thank you. I will try that. The first time I added 2" but I had to use the clone tool to blend it into the original margin of the picture. It had an obvious border. Will Content Aware help with that problem?

I am not qualified to comment on your editing procedures and I should not comment in this section. Can't help it..that shot brought a belly laugh. It is the most comical picture of a pelican that I have ever seen. Whatever you do to it, you will still have a winner! Good work, my friend!

That was my thought. Not a well taken/composed picture but I could not delete it. It made me laugh also-I wondered what he was thinking.

This is the latest effort. When I try to add more canvas to the left side, it starts to look funky. Probably this is the best I can do. I am using Image-Canvas Size-Free Transform and then dragging. After this I have to use the Clone tool to smooth the edges.

The expanded canvas adds a lot to the balance (well, maybe not the bird's, lol) and impact. Just a couple of tiny spots you could re-clone so they don't look like a pattern. Well done and a very delightful shot!

Yeh, now that you mention it, I see the pattern in the rocks. Will do.

It should if you are using Photoshop. I've faked in added backgrounds too with the Clone Tool but it is tedious!

Good idea, to add some space for the bird to walk into. It's an ancient technique. The other adjustments look fine.

I would crop a bit from the right, to emphasize that space on the left. I would also go back to the original rock--the cloning looks boring and the original keeps some reality to the humor.

OK, the final product. I decided to crop very slightly from right to emphasize space to the left. I decided to leave rock "clean".
Thank you everyone; I enjoyed the process.

That's a really cool picture! I think the addition to the left side has been done really well. Linda's comment about maybe lessening the "copycat" look is well made. It also looks like the top of the rock at the far left is a bit fuzzy. You might search for a sharper area to clone from for that, as the rest of the line is pretty sharp. I think you have a winner here, well worth the effort.
