Kiss or fight? Gray and white.
Took some crane photos early this morning. Unfortunately it was cloud and high ISO was used.
The photos are clear and dramatic. Thanks. The closest we come to Cranes here in San Diego are Herons and Egrets.
The cranes seem to nearly jump off the page. As a novice I'm sort of wondering what's wrong with using a high ASA? The pictures do not seem grainy to me.
Nice ones. I think he's checking his wife for a sore throat. : )
They seem to be on the move, we've had a couple of flocks fly over our area (15 miles east of Greenfield) and flocks were seen NE of Greenfield feeding on the ground. Nice pictures.

Great shots Richard, A couple of things hit me:
1) 2500 was the ISO identified on the second image. Is there a history
of high noise on your D850 at that ISO range? On my D7500, I don't
get significant noise at ISO 2500
2) EXIF data shows on the second shot that it was shot at 800 mm.
How far away were the birds, and how much cropping did you use?
3) Your info shows you are in Indidana... did you take these images in
the state, and if so, where???
I guess when I looked closely at the images, I did not so much see noise as a very shallow DOF with an already "dim" background" that just bled off into a dull bokeh. But that is what my untrained eye saw. Others may see it differently.
Thanks
Excellent set Richard and fantastic when viewed in D.D. and some really colorful leg bands on the Whooping Crane!
I don't see any issue the light might have caused. You and that D850 seem to have done just fine.
Great shots in my opinion. Especially the Whooping crane. I've been trying to get one of those for years.
the whooper comes through Nebraska with the sand hills, the people at the crane sanctuary named him "Bob" rare sight --thanks for sharing

Thanks, Ed! I normally do not use very high ISO in order to avoid the grainy problem.

Thanks, Graveman! I took these in Brownstown Yesterday. I will try to visit the area at NE of Greenfield someday. Thanks for the information!
