Hello all

I was recommended I join this forum by one of your members, David Gardiner.

I thought I would introduce myself, I'm a newbie to the forum and a relatively newbie to photography, this being my third year since I held my first DSLR and really my second year taking photos. My first year was all about getting to know how the camera worked!

I joined a local camera club two years ago in Cornwall (Liskeard Camera Club) and we have now moved further south west to a very picturesque area called Mullion Cove which has some amazing coastline and areas of outstanding beauty.

My main passion is dance, theatre and portraiture and I do have a home studio where I photograph dancers and models. I also love wildlife, macro, land and sea scape, night and light painting photography, basically I love all aspects!

Hoping to get to know you and if there are any other photographers who specialise in dance, movement and portraiture, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Bina

Welcome, Bina Fellowes! Sounds like you might be posting from Great Britain across the pond. I’m from Wisconsin in the northern middle of America. A bit snowy here at the moment.

Welcome, Bina! Sounds like you have some real potential there, with a beautiful setting and some lively subjects. My first thought would be that, when it warms up a bit, take some dancers in white to the sea-shore at dusk and try some photos of them lit by flash, with dusky-colored skies in the background after sunset. Try some with slow, second-shutter flash, just for kicks. Maybe practice with a friend first to get the exposures right before bringing the dancers down. Good luck, and share some of your work with us!

Welcome, and show us the photos. (And ask us the questions -- that's what a forum is all about).

Just a note about replies: When you see a post, you can "Reply" or "Quote Reply". "Reply" just adds another post to the thread. "Quote Reply" starts a new post with a link to the post you're replying to. This can make things clearer to the readers since it shows which post your reply is directed toward.

Don't take this as a criticism, rather as orientation. As you have currently included the name of the person you are replying to, you have done all that needs to be done.

Hello RJay, yes, from the UK in the extreme South West. It sounds cold where you are. We've just had a few days of wonderful sunshine and now it's a bit bleak again. Thanks for the welcome.

Oh my!! Yes, you do have snow. I have only just seen the photo! I once did a photoshoot of my two white dogs in the snow .... it was a first time shooting in the snow and it was a challenge to say the least. We don't get much snow being here in the South West, it's the mildest part of the UK.

Hi DirtFarmer, thanks for the welcome and tip. Is this correct? Yes, I will post up some of my dance and portraiture images and I shall be asking lots of questions, so much to learn ... I've been like a sponge for the last year, soaking up all information and seeking lots of knowledge.

Hello ELNikkor, thanks for the welcome. Yes, we do have a lot to stimulate our sensors here in Cornwall. We live on the South West Coast, Mullion Cove, and it's truly beautiful. We are lucky in that we have amazing land and seascapes, historically the most dramatic storms to hit the UK so it will be getting down to the harbour to capture the waves hitting the rocks and smashing against the harbour walls.

I have already done one shoot on the beach which was fun, a bit cold. One of the dancers got into the sea and wanted me to catch her flipping her head backwards after she had emersed herself, total nutcase as it was freezing!! I have lots of plans for our first summer here and the dancers and models are all up for it. Second curtain flash is something I love doing in the studio, but plan to do some outside too, simply can't wait! I do post on Flickr where I upload some of my work and also instagram, it's just my name and you'll find me. I will gladly post up lots of photos here too, I'm always willing to learn and receive CC which helps me learn and improve.
