Photographed on Skaneateles Lake, in Skaneateles NY. Skaneateles Lake is one of the Finger Lakes in central New York. The name Skaneateles means long lake in one of the local Iroquoian languages. The cleanest of the Finger Lakes, its water is so pure that the city of Syracuse and other municipalities use it unfiltered.

What drew me to this scene was the contrast between the duckling and the beautiful coloration and clarity of the lake. Critique, comments and suggestions always welcomed. Thanks.

Nice photo. Try cropping so the duck is looking more into the bottom left corner and the wake trails out towards the opposite corner.

I really like the water patterns below the duckling. I would hate to miss that. Just my uninformed opinion probably.

I like it, Bmac. Cropping as in the first suggestion might help some.

I think I would crop a little closer, because the duck is so good on download, and much of the water is not necessary. If you could see more detail under water, it would be fine!...another good shot!

What a cute little fella. Why is he all alone? Usually you see a gaggle of these little guys following mom and/or dad. Any idea what gives the water that beautiful color?

Agreed. But I suppose it depends on whether the duck is the subject or the entire photo. I have quite a few similar shots where I intentionally do not crop in order to be able to keep interesting water or sky or whatever in a shot as well. Hey, we can always have it both ways with digital now can't we?
