I suggest going to a photo store with liberal return policy. B&H has a satisfaction guarantee, full refund policy. I have used them with great success.

I bought a new D750 this year (holiday pricing) from Competitive Camera here in Dallas, but I have purchased both new (D90, 24-120mm) & used (D700, 24-70f2.8) from Amazon and have been pleased.

(Perhaps "not getting stung" = "been pleased.")

E-Infinity has the D850 for $2,599, which only means it's a grey market model and they are not an authorized Nikon USA dealer.

There are several options for D 850 purchases on Amazon. I am not interested in any which include lenses or "interenational" models but there seems to be only a nominal increase in price for a couple of those listed which have a few extra goodies vs the basic "Amazon Choice" at a current $3,096. Any thoughts or exprience from those who have purchased from the Amazon site.

Some sellers on Amazon ship with no sales tax. That will save you a couple of hundred $. I just got my Canon R from Amazon and didn't pay sales tax. Put items in cart to check. Do you use the "Honey" plugin...that will pull up the best prices on Amazon.

With Amazon, you may have a great experience. With Amazon, it may be a disaster when it comes to cameras and stereo equipment. I have read too many reviews where Amazon sells grey market merchandise through 3rd party dealers and the buyer is left high and dry. Amazon won’t fix it and the seller is off the hook. Sure, some people have a great experience. But why risk a $3000 purchase?

B&H price matches Amazon closely. Adorama has no sales tax and also price matches. 2 day shipping for both. Call them and ask for the bundle advertised on Amazon. It can’t hurt.

I would think if you are thinking of buying a D850 your past history with DSLR's is more than a beginner. At this point, the only thing you want is the camera. I'm sure you have researched the camera and how it fits your needs now and in the future. Who cares where the camera comes from. At this point, you are well past the need for customer service input.
