Thoughts on D 850 Packages on Amazon

There are several options for D 850 purchases on Amazon. I am not interested in any which include lenses or "interenational" models but there seems to be only a nominal increase in price for a couple of those listed which have a few extra goodies vs the basic "Amazon Choice" at a current $3,096. Any thoughts or exprience from those who have purchased from the Amazon site.

Most important (to me anyway) when buying from Amazon is verifying who the real seller is. Often it is offered by Amazon but not sold by Amazon. You’ll want to verify that the seller is an authorized dealer if buying new. As long as you observe that simple rule, Amazon is an excellent alternative to the Adorama, B&H, etc.

Check out the "bundle" that includes D850 with AF-P 18-55mm DX and AF-P 70-300 DX lenses, plus a 500mm f/8 (t-mount) and a bunch of other junk.

What a joke! Shame on Amazon for even allowing that to be advertised.

Have never seen legit deals on Amazon that
were better than the same merch at BnH or
Adorama. Acoarst, on Amazon there's deals
that LOOK better than BnH or Adorama, not
meaning to forget Samy's and other known
legitmate suppliers.

There is pricing control. Thaz why you'll see
identical prices at all the trustworthy sellers.
When you see a remarkable price, ignore it
.... unless: Do check BnH and Adorama cuz
sometimes a controlled price drop suddenly
takes hold. But if your remarkable "deal" is
NOT mirrored by the "good guys", forget it.

I buy from Amazon for cheap accessories. However, I would never purchase something as expensive as a camera from Amazon. Go with BH. You cannot go wrong and their prices are as good as Amazon advertises. You will benefit from the store that specializes in cameras. Good luck to you.

I only purchase from my local store, B&H, and Adorama. PERIOD. I value photographic customer service specialists more than an Amazon Deal.

I would think if you are thinking of buying a D850 your past history with DSLR's is more than a beginner. At this point, the only thing you want is the camera. I'm sure you have researched the camera and how it fits your needs now and in the future. Who cares where the camera comes from. At this point, you are well past the need for customer service input.

Agreed @47greyfox I use amazon all the time. but a key point which you touched on is if it says items offered and shipped by amazon. while others say, items offered by a third party retailer. So far I've not had any issue with as offered by amazon purchases and tend to avoid those third party retailers who are just using amazon to advertise like eBay and don't trust all those "good" reviews as these can be fixed/rigged.

If you buy from Amazon you may be, in reality, buying from B&H, Adorama or some other authorized NikonUSA dealer. Amazon gets paid a fee for drop shipping the camera and other products. Amazon does stand behind their sales. So do B&H and Adorama.

I just checked, most of the Amazon D850s are being sold either by Amazon or a reputable company (I would be good with Adorama, Cameta, and probably Beach). I agree with all of those recommending burying from BandH or Adorama etc.. If you notice even on Amazon the price is the same for the camera no matter who supplies it, so you might as well get it from a well-respected dealer you can work with if there are any problems.

I also must say that on a few occasions I have bought the cameras with the bundles since they were the same price, usually from Adorama. It has been my source of rocket blowers and microfiber clothes for lens cleaning. A memory card can be good, but it depends on brand. Most of the stuff that comes in these bundles, however, is junk. I have gotten battery chargers that don't charge the battery that comes with the camera, eighth rate batteries that don't charge with the charger that does come with the camera, flimsy little tripods that you might give a kid to play with, camera bags that are ugly, filters that I am not sure I would want to put on my lenses, etc. Just keep this in mind if you decide to go that route. And, again, I only go for this when the bundle doesn't cost more and I am getting it from a reputable dealer.

I bought my D5600 from Amazon. I knew the price was the same as anywhere else. They advertised it because I'm a prime subscriber. It came from Nikon directly and I got it in 2 days on a Sunday. If I had ordered it directly from Nikon I might still be waiting for it. I've ordered directly from Nikon for accessories and waited a couple weeks to get it.

I try to buy from my local camera shop especially for larger purchases like this. Nice to take it home with you immediately after paying. They will match a lower price on Amazon or Adorama or KEH, which is usually only a few bucks difference on newer large $$ purchases. If it is DOA or has a problem in 30 days, they will exchange it. I get nervous about having large $$ value items shipped to me. Can get lost in transit (have had this happen), might get stolen off my porch (has happened in my area) or I might need to return it and now you are into RA numbers and shipping and a couple of weeks without my shiny new item. Might need a signature, which means staying home. For the smaller stuff or good deals on used stuff, I'll buy online.
