Fading refill ink

My refill ink test is now at 6 years. The pic on the left was printed on an HP Printer (dye ink) using Costco refilled ink cartridges. The pic on the right was the same printer using factory ink cartridges. Same Costco (Kirkland) paper for both.
These prints have hung in the same spot for 6 years this month, NOT exposed to direct sunlight, but in a well lit room. This is why I never use refilled cartridges in my printers.
(Notice the ink color under the Scotch tape on the prints as well, both show protection from fading by the tape!)
Both looked pretty darned nice when hung!

Thank you for sharing. I bet I am not alone in wondering about this.

Thanks for posting this. I had considered switching to refills because of cost but your valuable post has convinced me otherwise. Thank you for posting it.

I only use Epson ink in my printers and after seeing your demo I'm glad I do!
Thanks!

Thanks Carter!

I'm approaching the age group where 6 years might be "archival"! That said, as expensive as cartridges seem to be, it is the cost per print that counts.

I also only use Epson ink. My printer is over a year and half old and was turned on when new and is never turned off (24/7) Have never had an ink problem and only occasionally do a head cleaning.
Worth the price to us.

I don’t use refilled ink cartridges at all, I tried them years ago they performed very poorly lesson learned.

That was six years ago? I bet the newer refillers on the market today are much better, maybe time for a retest. I have two similar canon printers set up; one with factory ink and one with after-market. I'll repeat your test and see what happens.

Look forward to hearing from you in six years! Maybe just add to this thread!

Edit: I am not being sarcastic. I really am interested in seeing how it goes.

Check this link for the same prints I posted in 2014, about 1 1/2 years into this test.

You don’t have to wait 6 years use some strong flood lights for a few days or week or two and you’ll have your answer soon enough.
