I've looked at both Helicon and Zerene but there seem to be a ton of focus stacking options out there that are free. Any opinions?

Thanks!

If you have the $10 per month Adobe Photographers plan, it is one of the "no extra charge" features.

All you need is a graphics editor like Photoshop that will allow opening of multiple images as individual layers and the ability to automatically stack into a final result. Photoshop makes this very, very easy.

When did combining layers become known as "focus stacking?" Just curious.

I don't think we photographers should learn Photoshop. It is too big, complex and intimidating. However, there may be a dozen techniques withing Photoshop that are useful, fun and relatively easy.

First and foremost on my list is object removal. Photoshop is far better than Lightroom.

I have been a long time fan of Zerene. But my subjects are usually very small, insects, moss, leafminers, etc. I routinely take 5-15 shots, handheld, with a Canon MPE-65 lens.
