Headed to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico this Friday. 4 adults and a 5 yr. old. Any suggestions on what to see and/or where to go ? Thanks in advance. Gotta go pack.

Nope. I was in Puerto Rico once for 12 hours. Never left Ramey AFB. Military exercise. The next morning they flew us back to Fort Bragg/Pope AFB. That was my first time outside the Continental United States.

Puerto Rico has some beautiful sights. Remember to take plenty of Duct Tape, and Velcro to secure the 5 yr old.
There is also zip lining on the way to El Yunqe. If you are experienced it may be be too tame. If it is your first or want something suitable for a youngster then it’s a good intro to zip lining. There are great views from the platforms.
Bioluminescence Bay is near by in Fajardo. May be challenging for pictures in the dark from your kayak.
Old San Juan with its forts are great for photo ops. Seek out some of the older streets with colorful rows of townhomes.
In Humacao (which is not that close to where you are staying) I recommend Maragata Charters on Captain Matt’s Cat. He will take you to Vieques for some great snorkeling.
Definitely go to Richies Cafe in Rio Grande. The food is ok the views are spectacular.
Have a great time!

Well, it depends on how adventurous you are and how much you want to spend.
There are lots of things to see and do in Puerto Rico. Close to Rio Grande is El Yunque rainforest, not sure if it is completely open yet after the hurricane.
Further up east is Fajardo, where you can catch boats to Flamenco Beach in Culebra island- one of the best in the world. You can take the ferry. Very cheap (about $4 round trip), but that will require being in line for tickets before 4am for departure at 9am. Also in Fajardo in Las Croabas, at night there are kayak tours for the bioluminescent bay. The Fajardo lighthouse in Las Cabezas nature reserve is something else you can visit.
There is the zip line, a bit expensive but close by too. Luquillo beach (my favorite) is a few minutes east of Rio Grande and you can't miss taking a dip.
Going west and into the mountains there is the Arecibo Observatory if you are into science. If you go be ready to hike a very inclined (paved) road up to the visitor's center. If you make it this far, go a bit further to the town of Lares for some unheard of ice cream flavors (cod fish ice cream anyone?).
And of course, no trip to PR is complete without a visit to San Juan. Traffic from/to Rio Grande on weekdays before 9am and after 3pm is pretty heavy. Take the toll road to save you some grief.
Make sure you carry mosquito repellent spray just in case and you'll be fine. Have fun and come back to tell us all about it. Damn, I'm already homesick...

That's a great tip and one that I'll heed. Thanks.

Richies Cafe sounds like a good place for lunch one day. Thanks Kazjkram.
I have never been to Rio Grande but I have spent a whole week in Old San Juan and it has plenty of places to photograph. The old centenary by the ocean is a very picturesque place, do not miss it.
The fortress offers also lots of photographic opportunities.
Oh yes by all means see Trumps wall.

Check out Arecibo -- national observatory, El Moro Castillo -- the old Spanish fort built overlooking the bay, and Parque Nacional de las Cavernas -- this is a series of caves and sinkholes one of which is so large they take you to the bottom of the sinkhole in a jeep.
Stay in the airport. I hear they have power.
