Can anyone tell me the type of tree?

Don't Sycamore's have the round seed pods that seem to be at the top of this tree?

We got a million Sycamores around here. It's even the nickname for a college, Indiana State Sycamores, and I don't know the answer to that question. This was taken in Feb. if that makes any difference.

I think the Spartans over in Sycamore, Indiana will also say the round pods are indicative of this type of tree ...

It bears some resemblance to a dogwood but I don't think I've encountered one that tall.

GOOGLE says " Californian Live Oak" but I would not know.......

I don't think that's it, but I did check. Wiki says they are located at only one place in CA. And I ain't there.

I have been there. They have a plaque up in regards to the movie.

It’s a sycamore--the pods give it away even if the bark doesn’t.

Sycamore, the bark was clue for me, didn't see the pods at first, yep Sycamore!!!

I think you are right the peeling bark is also characteristic

Sycamores have peeling bark. This looks like a sycamore to me.
