Nikon D7500 and SnapBridge (for GPS)

What has been the community's experience using the Nikon D7500 (or, presumably similar, D850) with Snap bridge -- I am particularly interested in extracting GPS from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8 running Android 8.0.0) and am concerned about connectivity (and reconnect when the camera/phone go to sleep or are turned off) and the accuracy of the GPS itself. My alternative is a third-party GPS unit connected to my current D5100 -- but I am considering moving to the D7500.

I own a 7500, and a 500, and I DO NOT use SnapBridge. For a company with such a storied history, and products the equivalent or superior to any other company in the industry, this is a sad, useless app. It's far easier to simply extract the memory card or attach the USB cable. I guess it's much more profitable to create new model numbers than create a useful transfer app.

I take a location shot with my iPhone if I need a GPS reference. It may be possible to put that data into your exif data using the latitude and longitude data but I’ve never researched it.

Thanx for your replies. I feared as much. And it is possible to by an EXIF file editor application (at least in Windows) that allows you to enter the lat/long into the exif file for the image.

I use a GPS tracking app in my iPhone. Then, use Lightroom's "Map" module to merge the GPS coordinates into the photos' files. While this may not be as accurate as attaching the actual GPS location to every photo as it's taken, it's close enough for me and much less frustrating that struggling with Snapbridge.

Snapbridge works fine once you learn how to connect it reliably. It is simple to do once you have the procedure. Unfortunately the procedure Nikon gives you in their manuals doesn’t work.

I only use Snapbridge for remote release so haven’t tried the gps feature. One of my earlier cameras was a D5300 with internal gps. It sucked the battery down so I stopped using it.
