George Mendonza has died. He was that photographer.
Mendonsa wasn't the photographer, Jerry. He was the sailor. "Life" magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt took the photo.
George Mendonza was the sailor, not the photographer. The nurse died a couple of years ago. I saw a statue of the iconic moment in San Diego Harbor a few years ago. The photographer was Alfred Eisenstaedt.
Thanks for the correction. I can't read the article unless I subscribe. I saw the picture and the headline. The photographer, of course, was Alfred Eisenstaedt.
There is conjecture that it was semi-staged at the behest of Eisenstaedt
