Just wondering if my desire for camera RAW is misplaced? I already have my HX400v and all of the options that camera has, plus my processing includes Lightroom 2. Why do I need anything else?...Julian
Julian - I suggest googling the definition of RAW and the description of Lightroom. They are two different things. Pay special attention to the basic description of how they can work together. Your question is comparing “apples” and “rutabagas”. Sincere best wishes.

LR 2 is a prehistoric animal. It is crude and limited and no longer supported.. The current version is LR 8, and it is considerably better than LR 2 in nearly every way. However, your camera doesn't offer a raw recording option.
Getting a camera that allows for raw recording opens up an avenue for processing that includes greater detail capture, more dynamic range, better control over noise, and more latitude of adjustment of all aspects of an image without the negative aspects of attempting broad adjustments on jpegs.
When the HX400V starts to fall short of your expectations, you'll have the answer to your question.
I don't have the money to upgrade my camera now or anytime soon, so Lightroom is my choice!...Julian
