Hi, Bob! I am kind of troubled here. Maybe I am just getting old, but who is Bob Mendosa, and how could he have possibly have died in September of this year? I keep thinking it is February.

I think it was 2/17. He is the sailor kissing the nurse in the famous photo from the end of WWII. The nurse and the photographer passed away already. Life Magazine (I think it was) never acknowledged him as the subject of the photo, but both he and the nurse had made the claim that they were the subjects.

Thanks, Tom. Caught it in enough time to edit the post and correct it. I must have had a senior moment.

Iconic image. I read this earlier today - will have to check out more of his work.

Absolutely correct, Larry. The lady in the photo, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt, was Greta Zimmer Friedman, a dental technician.

Thanks for correcting this - I must have had a senior moment. Didn't remember it was an Eisenstadt photo!

Andy, it will be a worthwhile venture checking out Alfred Eisenstaedt's work. There are quite a few youtube videos regarding him.

I've seen a lot of it. Have a coffee table book of his photos. But well worth a revisit online.

He was 95. Just shy of his 96th birthday. The woman died @92 several years ago.

Bob - Here's a snapshot I took on the San Diego, CA waterfront of a statue depicting that iconic photo.

I always looked at his (Alfred Eisenstaedt) work in the 60's and wished while I was taking the "Famous Photographers" home study course.
