Paint Shop Pro 2019 cropping

Hope one of you can figure out what's happening here. When I use the crop tool in Paint Shop Pro 2019, the image turns brighter than it should be and stays overexposed when I confirm the crop. I haven't experienced this before.

When you start dragging with the crop tool a tool bar appears just below the crop area.

In that bar, just to the right of "aspect ratio" is a round button that goes from red to green when you click on it. It is the on off switch for the "enhance crop area" feature. You probably have it turned on. There are a couple of other buttons further to the right. I forget what they are for, and don't have the program on this computer.
