When you see "Flash Sale" in the heading of an email, what comes to mind? For me, it's a flash for a camera. Unfortunately, that term is now used for a quick, short-lived sale. Very confusing.

Another new term is "pop-up," as in pop-up store. It opens quickly, does what it does, and then closes. What's next, a pop-up toaster?

Tends to be garbage, tempt people in with 'low' prices, get the money and be gone before they realise what junk they have bought.

Pop-up refers to the pop-up flash on some cameras.

Right, but now it refers to other things as well - temporary things.

yes - but pop-up shops are just old news.
Pop-up flash is so old that it has come back.

Makes you think they are reinventing the Flea Market / Swap Meet.

But if you pay attention you can come out ahead. I got an email from Olympus about a year ago announcing a 24 hour flash sale on refurbished OMD EM-1 MkII bodies. That took over $200 off the regular refurb price, and even after adding $100 for an extended 2-year warranty (for a total of 3 years) I had a like-new body with a longer-than-new warranty for well under new prices. I have been happy with it ever since.

Jerry, if one gets a lot of unsolicited email, 'flash sales' usually/quickly gets added to the spam filter.
