Been seeing several of this lens on ebay. It appears to be manual focus and aperture - beyond that ??????

Thanks ..https://www.ebay.com/itm/Top-Mint-in-Box-KOWA-PROMINAR-500mm-f-5-6-FL-for-Canon-EOS-w-TX10-JAPAN-5309/183663135105?hash=item2ac32d0981:rk:7:pf:0&checksum=183663135105e12e00f411824c698eeb23573d22844a&enc=AQADAAADAFjVrDbVsZ8oH%2F8PNHtt9VX4%2Fw7FZcmMuqsX8uaFEduVWaNHDVCRy1RVb1ZJgBQWp1sCmteeYm1ka7M4GJlMBaTC7BQs9RowaqZYSXCu1nD5feAbwQ5JmrJSUAeR5oBA7kCUynsCyYkRjJeJ%2BCpwA2Ii9IPBlPJwY5A8lkxGbZf%2BY2a9Kjlu9MbEDrtd%2BBp%2BF%2FM%2BhAbwcgHGcnsmb5%2FGknhApAmp65xSGUl3czYBU%2FRtDMRu%2ByRa3EFIODtzMu%2BiPMcN4IEgZodAS9Qq2XSNxQASDDyesaNKVCXCPs%2FSN2CAhBlFgY8NSq2dpFLLJ6mrjmn2ETPbki6XNuJxFaY4TgdnkKs1Nx9BOXGPgM60XzTv5eI4nDROtcVGP57GRFbea8VLZinMJc97v8Pn8Oz2vXbNXcRXhYGg3SOMJHkeYKPemEvnbee4CiHey%2FSx4CYHLARwC0q198URqPsVEoDLy7H3hFDNJTmNlxog2J2Fw8UwsiyPEgNpSyUMcSotyyyDbUnBMSWVn0CEQBE64eAmz7L4gHpyNLJNf50w1%2B%2FXfZG%2BtBz79X02It3N8hCpRn79EgQrGEdGIcj%2BddL%2FLKhdquTvPmFdSxD2zKn5CeIzhgM1DMn1uGFyJC4q7L3GWTB5kEBCDjNmhB37CgC4MRs6SN3UMB7iQ%2BiQe2bMGPLRp5TTL6cKLChEFKzM0b8N4D1HAhDEkTlqYSEgfoCC6aAm5%2BhD8H8YKi5ULVuOkn0V%2By2tqO1YHvdn9XHbYzpQBBastox3bHAWHxxuBibvbsjSZczPuNuNDPlFv%2B9kZBLskeb%2FafOY%2BzneeiATlZopVCdKGVrehP9KOHBgQsUkm5RDrYir2Qxkq5UJmXtt%2BHZyuzsaAZy9PSc2rKYiIltijEglny%2BRDv1L1Vc0%2BiP17vQUU84H3rG5j675vjcjNCbKDdjLBJOJayFyIrS84Lp441F7dp11%2BghMCbTRcreT72QKcijkIEEogc%2BghrPiFKTjzJvKrv5vBOr2h5FezJjG1OvNag%3D%3D

From what I can see, in consideration of the high price, I'd stay far, far away from that. I would suggest the Nikon 200-500 as a better, price comparable, choice. Best of luck.

This page may interest you
https://kowalensscope.wordpress.com/

it is full frame and discontinued it seems. It can be used as a 350mm 500mm and 850mm and there are various adapters for different camera systems. I think the minimum focus distance is around 3 Meters. All manual with no image stabilization. It can also be used as a spotting scope.

Be sure to scan down to the bottom of the page where a test is done against several high class lenses ...especially NIKON.

And here is the Kowa video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioNZ76GUMcw

So why would you want an old technology manual focus …….You need at least a 24 mp DX to make any 500 mm work and a camera with fine focus adjust....

I was a Kowa user back in the day. It was my first camera outfit. They had good quality equipment, but it never really took off. Strange lens mount etc. Took it through a complete European tour in 1974 and have some great images still on my wall today. That said, because of the mount, and the cost, go with the Nikon.

Because Nikon has the longest flange focal distance, they have the most adaptable mount, canon has one of the shortest for a DSLR. If you decide to sell it the Nikon mount will give the largest market for that lens.

Why spend money on a Kowa with no resale value when the N 200-500 is so good

So, reading this link it looks like it is an optically good lens, but I have to ask, how are you going to use a manual focus 500mm lens, would a 400mm with TC not be a better choice?

I would be a little bit leery of the Kowa lens, especially at that price. I do not know anything about their optical quality but their 35mm cameras had reliability issues. My dad had a Kowa 35mm SLR and the shutter kept jamming until he finally gave up on it. Kowa's medium format 6 x 6 cameras, on the other hand, had a much better reputation.
