Looking for replacement for EYE-FI

I was a big user of the Eye Fi system to transfer photos from my cameras to my computer. Eye Fi upgraded to a system called Mobi, I never was able to use Mobi efficiently and lost a lot of photos. Then Mobi was cancelled. I used two Nikon cameras, a D5100 and a D5200 and a small Canon that were compatable with the Eye Fi system.

I am trying to find a system that I can use to send my photos to my computer, I think Nikon has a camera attachment to do this but cannot find information on the product or if it would do what I want to accomplish.

Perhaps this might help, from the nikonusa.com website:

"The thrill of creating a great photo is topped only by the excitement of sharing it. With the D5200, you'll have many great photos to share, so we made it easy. Just add the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter and wireless mobile utility app., and instantly transfer your shots to a smartphone or tablet± via Wi-Fi. Then share your favorites online as usual: email them, upload them to your favorite social networks or photo-sharing site like Nikon Image Space. You can even use your smartphone or tablet as an external “live view” monitor to see what the camera sees and fire the shutter—perfect for getting into photos instead of always shooting them."

Google Camranger. Unlike EyeFi, it allows complete remote camera control (including live view, AF, shiutter, SS, Aperture, etc) of either Nikon or Canon from Laptop, phone or tablet plus fast download of of raw and JPEG and much longer range than EyeFi. If interested, I have one in like new condition with extra battery for $125 (cost $320 new with extra battery) - PM me for details.

I was hoping for a system to go straight to a computer. My laptop uses wifi to connect to the web I could set it up as a hot spot maybe. I remember that Eye fi could communicate with my ipad. With the help of this forum I hope to be able to find a solution.

Wow, they’ve added to supported cameras. I have one. It’s great! That’s a good deal for someone, especially with the extra battery!

The Eyefi app was taken over by Toshiba and is now known as Keenai, it works exactly the same.
I don't know how you use the Eye-Fi card but have the app on my installed on my smartphone so when I take a photograph it is immediately transferred to the phone so I have never lost a shot yet. It is possible to use Toshiba Flashair SD cards in the same app although the process it rather tricky at first.

I loved it when it worked - nothing like it. Then it stopped working. With SD cards being as cheap as they are, I'm not going to invest in new Wi-Fi cards now.

Choices -

You might wonder why these cards are listed for $5,000. It's because they're not available, so this is just a polace-holder for when they get them in - if ever.

Btw, I used to use EyeFi cards, but mine had very limited range and were slow for raw files, but OK for JPEGs. I was using them in a metal body camera (Canon 7D) and wondered if that might have affected the range. Plus I had to use their CF to SD adapter since the 7D was CF only. That’s what drove me to Camranger.

I have two of the WU-1a Wi-fi units, I'd be glad to sell one (both are like new) with the little case, $12.00 plus shipping (I'm guessing shipping would make it $15-17 total). You can also do remote camera control functions with it, with laptop, tablet, etc.

If you want to read about it go to the NikonUSA site, they have a page on it. You can download the instructions there too.

If all you want to do transfer the photos to your computer, use the cable that came with it. Or maybe a card reader that will work on your computer or phone....I got one from Amazon and love it.....
