Kind souls and Karma

I received a surprise gift from a fellow Hogger yesterday, unsought but totally appreciated.

A film era camera and outfit that I've always wanted but never had the chance to own, it is going to be well-used and well loved. I'll let the giver speak up if he chooses to, but I'll just say that his generosity can also be seen in the volume and wisdom of his frequent contributions here. He is undoubtedly a good soul.

As many of you know, I've had a run of bad luck and sad experiences lately, but this is not the only unsolicited kindness that I've also had during this rather troubled time, including other members of UHH, who will also remain anonymous here unless they choose otherwise. A number of friends and former comrades in arms of my son, gave generously to a fund for his son (my grandson), and others have offered help with all kinds of difficult jobs as we prepare to sell his house. It warms my heart to know that there are so many good people in the world, and motivates me to try to be a little bit kinder, a little more considerate of others' feelings, and a little bit more generous in both large and small ways.

If you look for opportunities to "pay it forward" you'll find them large and small, almost every single day. Send the elevator back down to the first floor - the person coming in tired won't thank you, but will be glad when it appears immediately. Leave your quarter in the shopping cart - the next person coming up to get one may not have a quarter handy. Put a tip in the tip jar. Carry dollar bills to give to the homeless, or, better yet, coffee cards in small denominations.

Our time on this earth is all too brief - try to take care of each other while we can, whether in small ways or large.

Peace, (and THANK YOU!)

Andy
