Wonder if Ringo still has the Pentax in the picture? My first Pentax was an ME F their first auto focus with the 35-70 2.8, and focus confirmation with regular K mount lenses. I still have it.

I use my Pentax film cameras more than any of my others. It just feels right. Always has.

Yes, of course, I meant "if it ain't broke ..." Sorry about the omitted word. What I meant about Tamron and Sigma zoom lenses is that they don't make their NEW ultra-zooms, like the Tamron 18-400, with a Pentax mount.

No need to apologize, Lou … but I did realize what you meant - shows I'm reading - huh?

No, you're right - the ultra-zooms - for the most part - aren't available for Pentax. But, then - Pentax has a couple of its own - a) the 18-270 (which is probably the very same one as the Tamron) and b) the 60-450. You can also buy the Sigma 18-300 in Pentax mount - but, that's the longest you'll get with a 3rd-Party. Tamron also has their 70-300 in Pentax mount - not really a Super-Zoom, but it gets you to 300mm.

I’m thinking that you meant the Pentax 60-250mm lens. Pentax also has the 150-450mm lens. Those are only two of the “ultra-zooms Pentax offers. RJM

My understanding is that the Pentax 150-450 is a Pentax design and not third party.

Absolutely, I guess that I misunderstood.

I bought the Pentax 18-250 (as opposed to the 18-270) when it first came out, which was at the same time that Tamron came out with its 18-250 (as opposed to its 18-270) -- what I read about the Pentax 18-250 was that it was actually made by Tamron but with some specs and reviews a little better and it was a little less expensive but with only a 1-year vs. Tamron's 6-year warranty. Anyway, does any know if the current Pentax 18-270 is identical to the Tamron 18-270 and are they any different from the Pentax/Tamron 18-250 other than being 20mm longer? Also how do both compare with the Sigma 18-300 other than the Sigma lens is a little heavier and takes a 72mm filter vs. the Tamron's and Pentax's 62mm filter?

Yes, RJM - that's the one I meant. Couldn't find it in the B&H Catalogue, so I guessed it - must have combined the two, and made a "fantasy-only" design - huh? … Thanks for the correction ….

The newer Pentax 18-270 is the same basic unit as the Tamron 18-270. I also have the older 18-250 and find it "soft" beyond 200. Can anyone confirm whether the 18-270 behaves in a similar manner. I am going to assume it does.

Lou - I've talked with OleMikey about this - he rebuilds lenses - and he has stated, emphatically - the two are the same identical lens - both the Tamron 18-250 and Pentax 18-250, AND the Tamron 18-270 and Pentax 18-270. In other words - Tamron is THE glass factory - for all FOUR lenses. The 18-250 is also put out by Sony in a-mount, and he has indicated to me - it's the very same lens. He also indicated the Sigma 18-250 OS HSM - is the same lens, but with some modifications made by Sigma. Talk to him, if you like.

Many here have said the Sigma 18-300 is a superb lens. Check my posting on that lens - a few days ago. The Tamron 70-300 is NOT a Super-Zoom, though - just a medium Tele-Zoom. Neither their 16-300 nor the newer 18-400 - were made available in Pentax mount. I also posted one on the 16-300 last week. Check the link below - if you'd like to read them. There's also one on the Sigma 50-500. Okay, Lou? ….

Kingman - I do NOT have the Pentax 18-270, but I DO have the Tamron 18-270 in EOS mount, and have not found it to be soft, beyond 200mm. In fact, I've found that particular lens, to be beyond reproach. My only problem with it is Lens CREEP!!!! … But, I have resolved that with a simple rubber band …

The K-50's a nice camera, isn't it, Hassig? … I have it, too … just the right amount of width and heft …

And, the low light capability is pretty amazing, too … what's the top ISO? … 51,200 - is it? ….

51,200 is correct per the manual.
