And I Totally agree with you Young Lady! Nothing wrong with being prepared! Some posters are gun h**ers and you can’t reason with them. I’m 65. It only takes one time for a easy thieft if you can’t defend yourself and you won’t forgive yourself if you could have prevented it. I know!

I'm a 60+ woman, who treks freely through the woods by myself. I live in Kansas where you can openly carry a firearm. I carry a .22 pistol with me on my hip, in full view. Just think about it for a minute, if you came across a little white haired woman who openly packs a firearm on her hip, wouldn't you think twice about trying anything dubious at that point.
Yes, I'm cautious, but, I'm not afraid of protecting what I've worked many years to achieve. I don't let that little pistol go to my head either. Although, I've never encountered anyone else in my part of the woods that meant any harm, I'm aware there may come a day when I may be forced to act. If so, I'll be ready! I grew up in a military home, where I was taught self defense at an early age. And I also carry a cell phone with a direct cell phone number to our county sheriff, who knows me quite personally.
All points of assurances of enjoying my time in the woods by myself, in piece. These are just my point of view on this subject.
I'm a 60+ woman, who treks freely through the wood... (show quote)

I’m serious! Not a joking matter unless your one to never venture out anywhere where you’re alone.

I have been out taking photographs in all sorts of remote places for 50 years, often alone.

What on earth are you talking about?

Packing my pee shooter may be a total false sense of security, but it's the only way my husband will let me go by myself. It's not my first choice, but it doesn't hurt to have it in my toolbag either.

I don’t want this post to turn into a political discussion on gun control but am wondering what other Hogg’s do to protect themselves and their expensive equipment when in remote areas? I carry a firearm. Thoughts All? If this has been discussed before sorry but I’m reviving the thread!

Crime rate stats for remote areas are very very low. They are not very much higher in the more visited parts of our national parks. You are more likely to shoot yourself accidentally while carrying a gun than to be attacked by a random criminal when in a remote area. Really, thieves do not say "Hey, I need to score some money for crack. I think I will drive 10 hours to the National Park then hike into the woods for a day and a half in hopes of finding someone with enough cash on them so I can score!" Save the weight, leave the gun.

You get funnier with each post. In your teenager like fantasies, how do you envision this working? You hear the highway ruffians in plenty of time to drop your pack and arm yourself? You plan to drop a bead on anyone approaching, including from behind? You have your camera around your neck so those ruffians recognize you're the easier mark than all that other walking-around gold that stumbled through their trap that day?

I have traveled in ,perhaps, the most dangerous countryside in the US with many thousands of dollars of medical implant gear. Streets of NY City. And have had cars broken into a c**pla times, but never had any personal difficulties. From Harlem to Red Hook to Sunset Park to East New York, to Far Rockaway, never had a single threat.

That's easy to explain. Per capita, New York City doesn't even crack the top 100 most dangerous cities in the USA list, so, you are quite inaccurate by calling it the most dangerous countryside in the US. It isn't even close. Statistically, York Pennsylvania is far more dangerous than New York City. Philadelphia PA is far more dangerous than New York City. I've walked in New York and Philadelphia and York numerous times with expensive cameras and I've never been bothered or felt threatened.

And you sir are becoming a troll! Why are you continuing to degrade me? You know nothing about me. Get on with your life. Start you own post! I won’t respond to you and all will be well. What is wrong with you?

I know what you are talking about. So do you, but you are not being honest. If you were being honest, it would be obvious to all that you are trying to provoke a political fight, and that does not belong in this section of the site.

What does it say about someones cause when they have to resort to this sort of behavior to advance it?

Your statement is partially true. However, my particular county is mostly low lying marshes, and wildlife preserves with more dirt roads than paved, which are wonderful for photography and apparently equally opportunistic for drug dealing. Our county court system shows we have a significant high rate of drug users in our county. And I have come across a couple unoccupied spots where the drug activity has taken place. So please, don't think for one minute that remote areas are immune.
