At first I thought that this duck was playing. After sometime I realized that there was some thing wrong with the bird. He could not go more than two feet as some thing was stopping him to do so. I thought it might be a fishing line who was causing problem to the bird. Poor bird was trying to get rid of the fishing line but could not do that. As a result he was completely exhausted. This happened so many times that he was struggling and then tired. I called a number if they could help the bird but no response. Then I called 911 and they called Animal Rescue. Animal Rescue asked Fire Rescue for help. In short, when they brought the duck out of the water, it was noticed that poor bird was caught in fishing line. He was tangled by his feet, wings and neck. After 10 minutes, this bird got rid of the fishing line. He was released back to the lake.

Great story, pictures and outcome.
I am glad to see this and that it was handled professionally in your local jurisdiction. I am retired now but was the fire department’s command officer of the swift water rescue team and rescue boat operations. I can say truthfully that our team saved more lives on our local rivers than we ever did in fires. Thanks for sharing. Days gone by for me.

Thanks. It was a very rewarding assignment I had for the last eight years of my career. FYI, I don’t know your jurisdiction’s structure, but here we had two groups on the team. Swift water rescue swimmers and rescue boat operators. They work together of course but different training and skill sets. Because much of our water is swift, with rapids and boulders we operated with two boats if swimmers were going to get in the water. One upstream and one downstream. When available we responded simultaneously with the Sheriff’s marine patrol. Coordination was very good most days. Very busy group in summer. I can largely tell from the images you posted that your jurisdiction is well versed in safety standards. Good deal.
