I just took that for granted having been the one there, my apologies. I do not want anyone to try riding a motorcycle while taking pictures and get injured, so I wanted to make that very clear and the fact that I did not endanger anyone else either. Always safety first. Appreciate your comments so that I could make the clarification!

Actually, it's not that hard... I had a Sony camera about half the size of a cigarette pack. I could hold it upside down, in my left hand over my windshield, and use my thumb to press the shutter. Small enuf to drop if I needed to use the clutch. Only pblm is that it's outdated technology, only took 2 meg photos. Lots of blurred pics, forward was ok, sideways always blurred, but a few good ones. Riding with my friends, Dangerous Curves Hawaii. Yup, all ladies.
Bigger cameras might be more difficult.

[quote=EyeShootWideOpen]I wanted to see what would happen if I panned my camera while taking images of the ocean/beach. I have done this with landscapes as well. I ended up liking the effect it had on the images.

I like #2 & #4 - they give the same effect as using a ND filter to give a "smoother" appearance to the water movement. Lot's of interest in the wave action of #2 . .

Good job and great results!

Please note that I was not driving the bike, I was a passenger on the back, and it is a big bike with a side car, so nice comfy, stable seat I was perched on. AND, the camera strap is always around my neck...we MUST protect our gear! I am an explorer, not a dare devil.
The shaky pictures makes it look like you were on a Harley, not a Goldwing.

I imagine you had some amazing views riding in Hawaii! And had a great time riding with the ladies as well. We had a women's group but I never rode with them, typically rode with my husband and our friends. Did lots of bike shows and have tons of pictures from those as well.

Agreed. It does have the same effect. It would not work if you had other elements that you needed to keep in focus but it is a viable option for something like this I think.

I think the picture you are referring to was a pretty bumpy back road...no telling what it would have looked like from a harley! But you would be surprised how hard it is to keep a camera stable on a bike. I used to try shooting the headlights and taillights and they always looked like heart beat lines on the heart machine monitors (no idea what they are called) but I had fun and got some unusual looking light patterns.

I love the ocean images but if you could straighten the horizons they would be perfect.

thanks jliane. yikes, that is totally a pet peeve of mine too! however, these are from 2010 before i became as aware of this subtle but very effective adjustment. you have a great eye, thanks for catching that. i should probably adjust them all while i am thinking about it, lest i forget...however i am working (work can be so distracting) lol

This was obviously a lot of fun andI like the Shadows shot of Bike & Riders against the blurred asphalt.
That one spoke to me artistically and the ocean wave images were also interesting and captivating as well
Thanks.

Blair,

Lots of fun! I took way too many shadow shots on and off the bike, but I always liked the blurred pavement as well and have shots of that alone. I have used them as textures on other shots. It doesnt always work but I like to play. Glad you enjoyed them!

I'm familiar with taking pictures while on a motorcycle, I've done it. Don't get on me about this but it was while I was driving the motorcycle. It was an early Honda Goldwing and a smooth freeway may years ago - not a bumpy back road.
