I shot this at a small park and added a few elements including the building on the left. Is the building too dark? The background that I used darkened it quite a bit. I want it to be noticeable but not the subject of the photo.

Love the light, colors, textures and tree! Probably is a good idea to have something in the shadows there on the left like you do. It could be a little lighter without drawing too much attention. For some reason I'm not fond of the birds. I like the elk a lot, so I guess I feel like it's just a few too many elements.

But I think the initial impact is wonderful and anything else is just over-thinking

btw, we've been in blizzard conditions here all morning, so if I'm not online again 'til Sunday, you'll know why.

Oh my, no birds for you? 😆

Thank you for suggestions. Be safe and warm!

If I were forced to pick "the subject", I'd say the tree. 👍

I like this image very much. But, like Linda, I think there’s too much competing for attention. With the tree being the primary subject, I think I would eliminate either the elk or the birds. Having the house in the shadows on the left is a good idea, IMO.

I love the tree with the elk in the background. However the texture layer you added for me was over the top. I spent too much time on that and not on the actual image. I think without the texture layer the birds would not be a problem which some in here said is too much of a distraction. Just my two cents worth.

Overall I like it. When I first opened the picture my eye was immediately drawn to the Elk, guess I'm more an animal person than a tree person. The birds to me seem like an afterthought and I would probably take them out.

Nice composite. The building could be just a tad lighter.

I enjoyed your composit, color, and texture. Your tree is wonderful, and I enjoyed the elk. I agree the building on the left could be a little more evident without competing for attention. I might suggest reducing the opacity of the texture layer a bit (but not completely) if you like the birds. At first, I thought they were part of the texture. Overall a very nice composit presentation. Bev

The composition feels a little rigid, with the tree smack in the middle, but the colors are very nice!

Thank you for commenting Fred. The tree is supposed to be the subject.

Thank you Stan. I had my doubts about the birds since I kept moving them around. I agree they need to go.

Thanks Frank, I'm glad you like it. I did a color range to select just the brown colors in the photo and created a mask. Everything else in the photo is masked. All of the color and texture comes from the background layer. The color and texture layer are the same image/file/layer, whatever you call it. I did some clean up on it to take out some of the larger distracting parts of the texture before I posted it but the colors are what make the image and I don't have another background like that without texture. The only thing I could do would be to maybe use the healing brush to try and remove more of the texture.
