For all you Everglades photographers....be careful out there!

Excerpt:

"A monster Burmese python captured in the Everglades has broken the state size record, stretching 17 feet, 7 inches, its belly bursting with 87 eggs, the University of Florida announced Monday."

They euthanized it citing "invasive species". So wrong!

“A 17.5-foot snake could eat anything it wants,” Krysko said. “By learning what this animal has been eating and its reproductive status, it will hopefully give us insight into how to potentially manage other wild Burmese pythons in the future".

Busy, busy, busy...
Why can these people never just leave things alone? Seems like they just HAVE to "manage" everything!

I had read that these pythons have done massive damage to other wildlife in the Everglades. A bounty on the python might solve the problem quickly.

I vaguely remember reading an article about this a number of years ago and I believe it stated that the python population was increasing in the wild at something like 2800% per year, they are becoming harmful to other wildlife (survival of the fittest and biggest), and are now found as far north as Jacksonville. All because somebody buys one, keeps it until it's longer than a Cadillac then disposes of it in the wild with no regard to it's survival nor the survival of other wildlife. Just like heartless people buying live baby chicks and white bunnies for Easter and then throwing them out in the wild when they're not cute anymore.

These pythons have two jobs in life - survive and reproduce. The one on TV with 87 eggs shows why the population is growing like wildfire.

While I don't necessarily espouse killing them all, at least there should be some sort of sterilization program to greatly reduce or eliminate their multiplication or they'll eventually start invading lakes, ponds, towns, villages, city suburbs, and more like alligators have been doing since everglade wetlands were drained for housing during the boom which certainly dooms them to extermination.
