Unhappy Jay - The crows got all the peanuts.
Last Monday Jan 28 just before my computer problems started so I didn't get around to these.
This was one of the jays who came to the feeders but the crows had cleaned out the peanuts. He looked around from the overhead wire, then went down on the feeder - still no peanuts.

Great Pictures. They appear a little different the the ones I have here in CT. The chest color is different then mine an I love it.

Jerry, your photos and captions are fantastic. Loved all of the different views.

Good images. Nice detail. A scrub jay, I believe.

Thank you very much.
Anyone ever tell you that you spell funny over there?
When he was in High School my oldest son was into music and hanging around with friends from the UK, Australia and Canada. When he used the computer to do school papers he always changed the grammar and spell checker to "UK English", then I would do lesson plans, tests etc and if I didn't notice my students would come up and ask what was going on with my spelling.

Thanks a lot. California Scrub Jay, a relative of the Blue Jay but confined to the far west.

Thank you. The captions and stories are helped by me a bit "different"! I had 6 poses taken over about 3 minutes and picked these two - I think it may have been two birds as after the first 3 shots it went behind the old swing set out of sight and then came out on the feeder. A few differences in the markings and colors plus the beak seems to be more pointed in one series of pictures. I have had 3 or 4 of them in the yard at once.

Thanks very much, yes a California Scrub Jay. They come to my yard looking for sunflower seeds and esp peanuts. Sometimes they will compete with the Acorn Woodpeckers but both will leave if the crows or ravens move in on the peanuts.
Ya snooze, ya lose. Nifty colored jay. vz

I think scrub jays are always looking like they are mad at the world.

Yes Robert, when I first joined UHH I noticed the spelling differences. One spelling that threw me was the word 'Math', I simply thought that the US contributors had accidentally missed the 's' off the end! But I suppose in the end it is nice to see these cultural differences, it defines which side of the pond we are from.
