I use Google Photos, it will do all you want and it's FREE.

Be very careful with "Softonic", make sure untick their suggestions and take care not to download another app without knowing.

I'm color blind. Previously I used Picasa 3 too, now I only use it to download my files to assure uniformity. Now I use PhotoScapeX (free) and it works very well for me, and it supports processing the latest Canon Raw files. It can be used accurately with 3 or 4 clicks or you can REALLY get into serious editing. Here are a couple of sites for you, Enjoy. Be sure to select Mac/or Windows. Get the free version first (it never expires), and you can always upgrade. Also, please do yourself a favor and watch the following youtube video both to see if you would be interested and for training if you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWC-SAuYOzw&t=325s Instruction and download info http://x.photoscape.org/. May you always enjoy your photo journey! JimmyT Sends

Hi Everyone: What's the best SIMPLE, free or not, replacement for PICASA that modifies and catalogs pictures other than Adobe Elements or something in the cloud? Also can PICASA on a Windows 7 computer be switched to the same computer to Windows 10 at the end of this year when Microsoft no longer will support Windows 7? Thanks Bob

Faststone. Does everything that Picasa does and does it better. Free and easy to learn

FastStone is great! I don't know Picasa, but if boberic says they are similar, then I will vouch for it as a replacement. Use it all the time. Have processed photos on my laptop while flying transcontinental and it was painless.

Keep in mind that you must do something to backup the .ini files or you will lose your edits from Picasa. We learned this the hard way by failing to have Carbonite back up the .ini file. The albums are the modified photo, not the unedited photo. Exporting photos also saves the modified photos. Full info is available from the Picasa Geeks. They have a downloadable book on Picasa and one on Google Photos. Google Picasa Geeks or Geeks on Tour.

The best news about Faststone Image Viewer is that it has a 90 page downloadable (also free) tutorial in PDF or HTML that is very helpful. Easy to learn and Free. Faststone has it's own website and offers a lot of various other softwares. Some Free and some not!

You can even put Faststone Image Viewer on a jump drive and plug it into any computer (pc) and do image editing on other computers. I carry it around with me when I need to work on files on other computers.

I just find the learning cure to be too long for this old man. I don't need half of what it does! I have it on my computer and have spent hours trying to figure all of it out. Most of my body is working pretty well, but I think I am losing my mind!! Bob

I agree, I switched to PSP years ago and never looked back, Bob.

Faststone is free and better than Picasa and no learning curve it does more also then just catalog. Picasso will also run on Windows 10, all you have to do is redownload it unless you saved the download from previous. Whenever I install the program I always save the download makes it a whole lot easier to reinstall if you change computers.

Bob,

Is there something inherently wrong with Elements?

Compared to Picasa, Elements is neither simple nor free. Don't get me wrong, Elements is excellent, feature rich, software at it's price point. However, I believe that many people who want a really simple replacement for Picasa would find Elements too complicated for their needs, with a learning curve requiring more time then they are willing to commit.

The built in photo app in Windows 10 may be all you need. It does not catalog but takes care of basic editing and enhancement. You would need to take care of the cataloging and organizing. I use Affinity Photo and although it can be simple it can also not be simple. It would be up to you.

I can relate to that. I’ve heard that the mind/memory is the second thing to be lost as we age.
