How I did "Playing with Dolphins" (posted at Linda's request)

I took the underwater picture when my daughter and son in law made a large pond in their garden and filed it away about 14 years ago thinking I might do something with it. In Malta, a few years later I went to a dolphin show and got the dolphin pictures. My two granddaughters were on the trampoline and I took pictures of them, again to put on file.. Looking at the dolphins and the cut out pictures of the girls I just thought underwater scene. There is about 14 layers and I tried to get the girls' positions to interact with the dolphins. I used masks to get some parts behind the weed to get depth to it and just played with it till I was happy... Added a few air bubbles to finish it off.

The air bubbles are one of those delightful details I wouldn't have thought to do, but they add so much. Would never have guessed trampoline shots. You are a treasure, Val - thank you!

No problem Linda, glad to do it... I took quite a few trampoline pictures to play with. Those in Fly Me To The Moon are two of them.

Thanks for sharing the way you created this fascinating image. It’s wonderful, and it also makes a case for hanging onto photos we aren’t sure of a use for. Just because it lies around for years on a hard drive doesn’t mean you won’t one day find a good use for it.

If asked what the first key to doing this kind of art is, I would say it is masking. It opens the door to all else.
