Been there, shoveling driveway clear just to have the snowplow come by
There aren't many things that tick me off than when that happens. Those trucks here whiz by at fast speeds and throw the snow clear up into our yards.

I'm just glad I don't live there. I saw enough snow in Germany to last me a life time. We don't usually get as much in Utah as in earlier years. When I first came to Utah in 1965 to go to school they didn't scrape the roads back then and I had to buy snow tires just to get around. By October we had deep snow and I was being called out at 0500 to shovel walks on campus. Now they scrape at the first sign of snow and no one has snow tires anymore.
They did that for years in our subdivisiion until I asked them why they couldn't move the snow to the middle of the street from both sides, and they did! They shoveled gaps in the buildup a couple of places in each block.
That's a snow blower!! That is not shoveling!
As a kid in my old home town, there was a skinny "tractor/plow" that cleared all the sidewalks. It was really cool!! Snow falls were excellent opportunities for kids to earn a few quarters. We'd go door to door with shovels. It was fun and kept the little local candy store in business. Snow blowers seem to have put snow shoveling by kids out of business.
"The good old days" had lots of charm and was much healthier for kids.

Different days, Mark. Kids can't go outside without their parents in tow, much less shovel sidewalks.
For sure, Steve! My 14 yr old grandson does go out, rides his bike, plays ball, ... He lives in a very nice, small, safe, cool neighborhood. I'm delighted he does. My daughter & son-in-law have a very small house and work their butts off to provide for the family. Kind of "old fashioned".

Standoff?
I thought that would imply that the combatants have roughly equal ability.
Doesn't look like that's the case in the picture.
You're definitely outmatched.
(and probably buried)
The sad but funny thing is that this will happen more than once for that poor bastard. Probably in the same day too.
Not to be a killjoy, but shoveling "blowing" snow into the street is illegal.

I use a snow thrower, but still use my shovels whenever and wherever possible. Sometimes it’s more relaxing and of course quieter. My brother and I used to fight over shoveling our neighbors (like a grandmother to us) walk & drive because homemade cookies were involved.
Right! And that snowplow snow is like concrete!

Its also not allowed in NYC. It's done all the time though the Dept of Sanitation is starting to issue a summons for it more frequently. They don't open manholes to dump snow anymore either. Must be some stupid environmental rule. They let rain go down there. Same water.
They've stopped putting snow in manholes in NYC due to the risk of fire. The salt in the snow eats away at the insulation and causes shorts and fires. Rain will wash away quickly, but the snow (and ice that happens when snow is pushed) doesn't do that which can result in wide-reaching blackouts which helps no one in the winter. In Manhattan, they try to dump snow into the rivers but that just adds to the street congestion since you need backhoes, dump trucks, etc. However in the other 4 boroughs it is an FWBI situation (ask anyone who served what FWBI stands for).
My wife and I found a better solution - we're moving down south

The kids don't mow lawns anymore, either. You have to hire a lawn service to do it or mow the lawn yourself.
