Last week, in the discussion about printers, Big Mike aka "Bigmike1 Joined: May 5, 2017 Posts: 381 Loc: I am from Gaffney, S.C. but live in Utah." posted some anti-Semitic h**e speech which was additionally conspicuous in it's irrelevance. I AM JEWISH. I have alerted the Admin and requested that Mike be kicked out of the Forum for cause. I will certainly be watching every single word that comes from Big Mike 1.

Please help me do so.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I bet it was in the Attic. I don't follow Attic discussions, but I don't recall reading racial, religious, or ethnic attacks here. Hopefully, admin with deal with this.

I have NO tolerance for h**e speech. This is a rampant problem in this country, and in many other places around the world. It will be the end of humanity if it is allowed to continue.

This site has been outstanding in avoiding political comments in our various discussions. It is wonderful. So sorry to hear about something even more egregious that political comments.

I noticed the remark and thought it was quite ignorant, equating being "cheap" to being Jewish. It caused quite a ruckus.

One occurrence can be blamed on ignorance, or the times or environment one grew up in. Although I didn't respond at the time, I wondered if apologies might have been made privately.

Actually, you are right. Even though I do comment on it, I think we would do well not to have it.

The attic is there as kind of a buffer so those who want to let off steam or wh**ever can do it away from the general conversation areas.
As a society we cannot make everything peaches and cream. There are always going to be opposing points of view and yes, jerks. The Attic is UHH's way of keeping it out of the mainstream

Right! If people can't control themselves when they post online, they should stop posting or be removed. This is about photography. Originally, Chit Chat was, for all intents and purposes, the Attic. It got so bad that I didn't want to look at Chit Chat. Many members have quit because of the harsh remarks made to them and about them. Creating the Attic section was a way to isolate inflammatory posts, but not having them at all would be better. I'm on two other forums, music and cars, and neither one has the vicious kinds of posts I've seen here. Maybe it's just the nature of photographers.

EDIT: On a related topic, there are a lot of ethnic jokes posted in Chit Chat, but I don't mind them, and I've never read a complaint about them. My background is Irish, and I'm accustomed to hearing jokes about drunken Irishmen. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to insult or make fun of ethnic groups. Sure, we have the option to ignore them or let them roll off our backs, but they are still a form of unwarranted personal attack.

They work just fine and I don't have to worry about replacing ink cartridges all the time. Maybe I am just lazy but also cheap. Maybe I have some Jewish ancestry somewhere. (:"

Sorry, I wouldn't consider a reference to possibly having Jewish ancestry for being frugal any worse than a reference to my Scottish ancestry being overly frugal.

How about you link his offensive remarks, that would be helpful in making your case, there is no room for h**e speech, but just your say so is not sufficient to ask others that a member be banned.
