A friend of mine died recently and left all of his cameras and lenses to his wife. She asked me to see if they were worth any thing. I checked ebay for all of the items and got some numbers but I'd like to run them by you as well. Here's the list: All the equipment is "film period" Asahi Pentax. All of the lenses are like new and I could not even see dust inside the glass. All but one lens had a case and sunshade. All had front and rear caps. All are M42 screw mount. Here is the list:

Asashi Auto Bellows/Slide copier, as new in original box with instructions.
50mm f1.4 Super Takumar
50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar
28mm f3.5 Super takumar
135mm f3.5-f4.5 Super Takumar
80-200 f4-f5.6 Super Takumar
Kenko 2X Teleconverter.

The 50's and 28 have a little value/desirability - the rest, not so much.

I pretty much go by ebay prices for both buying and selling myself. But be sure you are looking at the final sold prices not what people are asking as they often have way inflated imaginations. Oh, and you should figure out some way of rating their condition. And describe them precisely.

Actually I own some of that same equipment or very similar. I have that 28mm f3.5 Super Takumar and the Bellows/Slide copier. I have other variants of the other Takumars too. The 135mm ??? seems to be listed wrong, a 135mm prime or some zoom? The only one I personally would like to have would be the 50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar. The Bellows/Slide copier might be the most valuable item there as, as far as I know Pentax no longer makes such a product for any of their product line. I also have a K-mount Bellows in addition to the M-42. Some UHH'ers with vintage Pentax equipment like me might be interested and some people with new MILC equipment might too as these lenses can be mounted on mirror cameras with adapters. All totally manual though. I use Takumars on my Pentax film and Digital cameras. But I already have many. How much would you like for that 50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar? Good luck.

My recommendation is always to look on eBay and click on "Sold items," down the left column. You will see how much people were willing to pay. That's about as "real world" as you're going to get. Old photo gear doesn't usually demand high prices.

What cameras did he have to go with these or other lenses?

The "Super Takumar" lenses were I'm told designed to the highest standards and may bring the higher $$ for adapting to modern systems. "SMC" simply meant "super multi coated" not the same thing.

I used to adapt m42 lenses to my m4/3 camera as a means to get some faster lenses without breaking the bank. That said, the 50’s and the 28 are the best of the lot, but they’re not going to bring you much more than a nice dinner out.

Here’s some examples of what to expect from the lenses, assuming they’re in good working order.

Go to KEH.com and/or mpb.com and enter the gear in the 'I want to sell' box. You will get a fair, no obligation itemized quotation for the items within 24 hours. You might get up to 50% more by selling the more desireable items on eBay, but only after taking some high quality photos for the listing and then deducting EBay's and PayPal's commission.

You don't say if there is a camera body. I think the body is worth more than any of the lenses.

I have a K3 and still use my old nifty fifty but it is f1.7. If the SuperTakumar f1.4 is reasonable, I am interested. It all brings back fond memories.

Jerryc41 made a good recommendation, the Ebay "sold" price listings are about your best guide (a big hit of reality). The camera resellers are only going to go about 50% of that. They are neat old lenses, but the market is shrinking. Good luck in the effort.

That's a decent lens setup for an old Pentax, I don't know anything about the Bellows/Slide copier or Teleconverter.
To get prices start the listing on Ebay, then wait until a trending price shows up. I always list as Buy it now, and accepts offers, priced on the high end.

Be sure to take clear pictures through the lens glass with the diaphragm completely open to show the condition of the lenses. Also list as condition excellent, or mint,(any less condition, and you might as well donate to the local community college, or a nearby film club.)

I think you could get some decent offers, if the equipment is in the condition I mentioned above.

Since the equipment is older than 20 yrs. you can list on Etsy.com, as vintage. I've sold a few old cameras, and lenses, for slightly better prices that way.

Slightly above zero, before
calculating shipping, paypal
and ebay fees. IOW slightly
less than zero.

If you know anyone who
might smile at you if you
hand all this stuff to them,
their smile is worth more
than zero ....

A reasonably skilled user
of Sony or Fuji cameras is
able to use all that stuff
via inexpensive adapters.

$600 easy for all those Super TAKs and SMC. Just sold an almost identical list for a friend on eBay plus a clean Asahi Pentax body, and one less 1.4 50mm and a 200 instead of the 80-200. But I've been selling on eBay for 22 years and teaching eBay sales for over ten years at the local community college.

Attitudes about eBay here on the HOG are poor to say the least. It's my supplemental income next to my retirement. I just made that sale I mentioned a couple of months ago. I have over 650 positive feedbacks at 100%. I always make more on eBay than on any other used lists and way more than Craigslist.
