Homeless and Hungry in Coachella

This is a woman who has been living on the streets since I’ve know her, over four years now. Her name is Kathryn. The reason her hands look so rough is because she’s an artist and spends her time drawing with chalk, and making clay sculptures. Those aren’t sores on her hand, it’s chalk and clay.

Very meaningful image. It tells a story. For the last 2 years, I've been handing out bags (beanie, socks, toothbrush/paste, easy open can meals), to the homeless.

I’m happy to know that. A lot of people just pass them by and don’t make eye contact.

They can’t get enough socks or underwear, and do appreciate easy-to-open means.

Thanks for taking care of those who need it.

I do what I can. Whenever I go to a fast food place, I always make sure I have enough money to buy a meal if a homeless person ask for food. I thought about interviewing and photographing the homeless to educate everyone on how a person ends up on the street. I'm not sure if I can create/document their story. Your photo has inspired me.

I also feed the homeless regularly. They know me pretty well, and love it when I’ve got time to spend a little extra time talking.

If you really do want to document their story, if you don’t by now I would say to get to know them personally. When they know you genuinely care, they’ll talk about themselves honestly.

I’ve never asked them how they ended up on the street. I didn’t want them to think I was judging them. In some cases, it’s obvious how they ended up there.

If you do proceed on this project, please let me know how it goes.

Again, thank you for what you do. As you know, they are full of gratitude.
