Thanks, John. that must have been some childhood, getting to see all those games. Out here in the middle of Indiana, my only contact with the Yankees was through the newspaper and radio when they happened to be playing in Chicago. I finally got to see them play in Washington--the Senators--while on my high school senior trip in 1960. I believe when he came up the first time he wore six; and when he came up for good, he was assigned the famous number seven which was deservedly retired by the team after his run.
