House By The Side Of The Road

Those of us who have labored in building or maintaining a home know we are only the stewards
of that house for a time. Seeing this old decrepit home it makes you wonder why it was left to go to
rack and ruin. Some twenty years ago the road it was on was a mud rutted road lane which was
eventually paved. The location made all the difference since the arched trees formed a tunnel that gave
the landscape a change in character. Looking at its vacant windows there had to be lives that
were lived there whose story goes untold. We live in changing times where other peoples
decisions affect us in what we are left to see.

Well photographed and your expressed feelings echo mine upon seeing such a scene or photograph of such a scene.

You captured it well - I hate to see property like this - makes you wonder what family situations could be responsible for such! The condition of the house could tell stories I bet if it could talk!

An excellent capture. The snow really adds to the photo. Yes, it would be nice to have been a fly on the wall in past times. Mahalo for sharing.

I always wish I could talk with the people who lived there and go back in time with pictures of the house and owners of the house to find out what their lives were like at that time in history.

Pixelmaster, I agree with you. Each one of these buildings has a story to tell. I enjoy photographing them to try to imagine what went on in the life of the people that occupied them. You might enjoy one of my posts of the Death of a High Prairie House.

The upkeep must have been good while people were living in it. Shutter's still on the windows, no broken windows. Doesn't look like it's been unoccupied for very long.

I think it was a very attractive home in its day, though no additional barns/outbuildings surprise me.

A shot like this always gives me a shot of melancholy. Dreams unrealized.

I noticed the door was ajar. Also would like to know what the sign on the door says. Was the house remote from other houses? Your photo makes one wonder about the previous owners and why was the house abandoned. Very thought provoking.

Bud:

The sign says "No Trespassing".
Details on the who, what, where and when are not available. It was clear that since other
houses were near that someone made a decision to let the house decay. Entering
old buildings is a pursuit for some photographers which can get you arrested for trespassing
.....or worse. The photograph of this house was taken from the public road.
