Long story short, a high school friend has a good friend who is opening up a gallery in Tempe. After asking my permission, she mentioned to him that she thought he might want to see some of my work.
She sent him a few examples, and he is interested in meeting with me and seeing my “book of art.”
What does that mean? I, of course, have no such thing. I have never even dreamed that people would be interested in my captures.
If anyone has any idea of what I should have with me IF we should meet, your help is very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Dana
Basically it is a portfolio of your work. A kind of sample book of your best images.

I have a portfolio book with clear plastic pages that 8" X 10" images can be inserted into.
You can get something like this at Staples or any office supply store.
Have some of your best images printed and build up your portfolio.
The one I have is very nice looking, it zips up and has a carrying handle on it.

Is there a basic number of images?

Thank you, Will. I’ll start choosing which images I’ll use, and should a meeting actually happen I’ll get a portfolio book.

That's a good idea. Best of luck and I hope things work out for you.

I've seen numerous artwork portfolios, and there really isn't a set number of images. Typically, somewhere between 8 and 20 examples. Whatever you feel best represents your work. And of course depending on how large your body of work is... if you've been an active photographer for several decades vs. only a few years.

I will assume you have an iPad or similar tablet? Load what you consider to be your best images into the Photo app. Figure at least 1 dz. Don't overwhelm and do not forget the most important thing: sell your talents.
Just show your best stuff. An actual photo book of full size images is a great portfolio tool.

People I know say only 8-12 images, your best. The people who buy images are busy and just want an idea of how good you are and some of your best to judge from. Looking at more can come later after you become a known quantity or they reach the point of "Do you have... or can you do...?"
And you tailor the images selected to the potential customer. A car magazine wants pictures of cars etc.
Don't rely on just images you've selected just because you like them. If one leaves out images that you feel are not worthy of being shown, as these could be more desirable to others. Best get a group of persons to critique your images and select which of these should be show casted.

The book of art may mean a portfolio. My portfolio is 16X24 in size. It holds my best work. Currently 20 images in that portfolio.
Thank you all for your input. Should this lead to a meeting to see my work, I’ll have it in a portfolio. I’ll also have my iPad as a backup with more captures.
I’ll let you know, of course, if anything comes of this.
Thanks again,
Dana
Go to the office supply and get a large 3-ring binder and a box of clear plastic inserts and put your 8x10's into them and you set for the meeting. I have even printed some of my work onto plain zerox paper as well and no one knew the difference....go figure? Good luck.

Consider the range of subjects too. Try to get a balance that shows YOUR interests. A great but 'out of your comfort zone' lucky image might come back and 'bite' you.
