Projector

I have been asked to do some research on a projector for our
camera club. We hold our meetings in a traditional high school
classroom with shades. Would like to stay under $2000.

Some things we have discussed:

We hold our meetings in the AM so would like a bright projector.
We would connect to computer with an HDMI cable.
Tabletop instead of ceiling installation. (Distance from screen is not an issue for us)
We will begin with a traditional quality screen. Maybe upgrade later.
Would like a projector with a quiet fan.
Cost of replacement bulbs will be compared.

Questions:

How many lumens should we shoot for?
Do many of you have 3D capable projectors?
Do we need 4K?
Do we need HDR?
What projector does your camera club use now?

I know the answer to some of the above questions relate to cost, but given that, what things should we make sure we include in the projector so as to help our members improve.

Recommendations?

Thank you

I would much rather use an LCD panel than a projector.

How about considering a 4k hi-def television panel? My 65" Samsung cost less than $1,400 and you could cast directly to it, no projector needed. Clarity is amazing.

As a side note you could give school right to use - what a great community service for use of the building.

I have an epson home theater projector with a built in DVD drive. It can be used with a thumb drive or you can hook up a computer to it. I bought it so I could do demonstrations without the hassle of having to hook up a computer to it. Just walk into a room, plug in the AC power cord and begin. I can project the image to wall size and it's bright. 2400 lumens I think.
I bought this projector so I no longer needed to hook up a computer to it, which caused problems at times. And the speakers are loud enough to play music without needing additional speakers.

Several, years ago I bought a cheap Chinese projector. (~$300) It uses an led - so no bulbs to consider. It has 3600 lumens so it is quite bright. While this does not matter to me - I notice color differences and dynamic range difference between the projected image and my laptop monitor. Just food for thought.

Check out the Optoma HD143X 1080p 3000 Lumens 3D DLP Home Theater Projector. It does an excellent job, and is a pretty amazing bargain.
