I saw this link this morning and thought it was interesting. It explains much of the Left's version of not wanting a wall. Some will find it to be very true. Others, not so much. I offer it as one point of view.

He doesn’t answer well to common sense posts. He is more the babble on and on over how bad Conservatives are. Of course I know we would all welcome his thoughtful reply.

I don't want A wall, but I do want SOME wall. Mostly, I want border security, immigration reform, DACA, etc.
But I want Congress to open government and stop negotiating with an extortionist.

I would ask you if Obama was an extortionist when he shut down the government but I h**e putting someone on the spot.
Maybe you are going to bring up that old story that MOST i*****l a***ns come to America and overstay their visas. I have heard that and do not necessarily disagree. But let me point out that I just heard a border patrolman saying over 400,000 i*****l a***ns come across the border every year. According to him that was maybe half of those who are coming across. Another border patrolman said 90% of heroin still comes across the southern border, 90%. When America suffered over 65,000 overdose deaths last year don’t those figures sort of indicate we do need a wall on that border.
Liberals tell us walls don’t work. Yet the figures from the wall in the San Diego are impressive showing an amazing drop in the number of i******s crossing before and after the wall.
Like you I am somewhat for assisting the DACA people as one is my neighbor. I admit though he is a drug addict and alcoholic. He does have an arrest record as well.
I wonder if maybe a Pelosi, rather than going to Puerto Rico with lobbiests, could improve the status of the shutdown if she had stayed home and made those same offers to President Trump. Surely that would be better than saying this is only Trump’s fault.

The difference; the shutdown was due to a disagreement between the House and Senate over spending bills. Both houses were passing bills. Ted Cruz was mainly responsible for the shut down.
"Shutdown 18: October 1 to 17, 2013
President: Barack Obama
Senate: Democrats (54-46), Majority Leader Harry Reid
House: Republicans (232-200), Speaker John Boehner
Why: Ted Cruz, basically. While House Republicans, led by Boehner, had pressured the White House into agreeing to lower levels of discretionary spending, and conservatives in the House led by Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA) demanded that any funding bill delay implementation of Obamacare by a year. It was set to roll out the following year, and conservatives, most vocally led by Cruz and Heritage Action, were desperate to stop it before it gained beneficiaries who could defend it politically. Enough House conservatives got on board with the plan to make it impossible to pass a continuing resolution, and the government shut down.
After 17 days, Boehner folded and passed a funding bill that did not defund Obamacare and that most of his caucus opposed. Roughly 850,000 workers, or about 40 percent of the federal workforce, were furloughed."

You know you can’t just say the Right is always responsible for anything bad that happens in government, much as you on the Left would like to do that. Congress in its entirety is responsible for about 90% of the crap that happens. It is so in the case of border control. For what, going on 40-50 years, Congress has kicked the comprehensive immigration reform can down the road. In this case specifically the House could talk to Trump IF this was serious to them/Pelosi. Before Trump the House was willingbto offer 25 Billion. Now they won’t give a penny. Why, because of their hatred for Trump. Democrats will screw over America to deny Trump a needed wall.
Of course I heard Trump say he would take responsibility for this shutdown. But to be fair I doubt he considered the hatred of him by the Left. Most people would think the Left would want to end the shutdown by negotiating with the President. But not this Liberal Left. Of course we all know the Democrats have backed out on their word in the past. They promised Reagan a wall for amnesty. Then they reneged on that agreement. Nothing but liars.

I didn't say that the Right was always responsible. Read the list; sometimes Democrats controlled everything.
This time Trump came right out and said he owned it. But I don't see him negotiating. He could probably get his partial funding if he offered DACA. Then negotiate a complete immigration and border security bill. But I haven't seen or heard of any leadership coming from Trump on these issues. It's been flip-flopping and my-way-or-the-highway. That's not a negotiating position; at least not one that works.
As it stands, Democrats are saying "no, you can't just demand something at the last minute, and extort it over a government shutdown".

I realize you didn’t say, the Right is always responsible. But neither did you mention that Democratic Presidents have also caused shutdowns. I wanted to clear that up. Trump is really doing nothing other Presidents haven’t done. Isn’t Pelosi also saying, My way or the highway?
Yes Trump said he owned this shutdown. That does not mean it is entirely his responsibility. Where is the duty from Pelosi and the Left to work with Trump to clear this up. Pelosi iscregarded as a strong leader of the House and she and the Left, along with all of Congress, do bear some of the blame for this entire mess and also the responsibility for working to end it. Pelosi wants DACA and we are told she wants border security.
As an aside, maybe you could point out how the Left really wants border security. They champion sanctuary cities and states. They champion free education and medical care for i*****l a***ns. Hell, they don’t even champion free education for American citizens. The Left tells i*****l a***ns, if you come here you are welcome, we will take care of you. They even provide security from arrest and deportation for convicted felons. Everything the Left says is an invitation to i*****l a***ns to continue coming to America. Not to be rude but please don’t tell me I am wrong as I will tell you are full of s**t. You know this is happening every day. So again, where is the desire for border security from the Left? Maybe it went away with the financial support given the Left by George Soros.
What happened to the sworn oath to the U.S. Constitution by the Left. Helping i*****l a***ns violate a law by coming here does not go along with that oath or do you disagree?
